Tread Pattern and fuel consumption?

    I know that proper tire inflation is important for better fuel mileage. Any opinions out there on the effect of tire tread pattern on fuel consumption? For example, are my stock Dunlop AT 20 going to get better fuel mileage than the same size BFG AT that has a much more aggressive tread pattern?

    i noticed a drop in my mpg when i got my bfg at's i think its more the weight of the new tire rather than the tread pattern i could be wrong though

    i think more importantly you should look at the weight of the tire

    yes...tread patterns will have an effect because of the rolling resistance created...but weight is a big factor

    im still getting approx the same gas mileage now with nitto terra grapplers as i was with a taller set of bfg MTs...

    x2 that little extra weight can make a world of a difference along with tread pattern too because of resistance

    With my 10 ply 265/75-r16s the best I have managed to get is 21 mpg on the highway. They weight in at a hefty 57 pounds a piece.
