    Monte, I figure your the guy to ask about this.

    Is there any difference in bolt patterns between the J shift and straight shift (electric push button 4x4) transfer case for the first gens?

    I have a line on a 5spd out of a 2000 Tacoma with a transfer case attached, the seller doesn't know which shift pattern it is but I think I can make it work no matter what.

    Late to the party as always, but if you're still looking for an answer... there's no difference in bolt pattern. The cases are the same. Some shifter parts are different and there's a solenoid bolted on the rear for the push button 4x4 case. Keep in mind the additional wiring for that version as well.

    Also don't forget about the spline count. the 4 cyl (23 spline) is different than the 6 cyl (26 spline). There is also top shift t-cases and forward shift t-cases.

    Ok, so the shafts are the same (or should be) if it's out of a Tacoma with the 3.4?
    I have a local guy who has a 5spd with Tcase out of a 2000 Tacoma that I might be able to get for $175, but he doesn't know or doesn't understand the different shift patterns for the Tcase.

    Just got back from WA and Canada. Was a great trip. Beat on Frank hard. I even jumped him....more then once :anonymous: the LT is so bad ass.

    Never had a problem with my push button.
    2WD low mod is easy on it, and I'm not a hardcore wheeler, my truck gets me back to the job site and that's most of the "wheeling" it gets.

    If what you have works, is there any reason you can't just swap your current tcase to the new tranny?

    FWIW, every push-button tcase I've seen at the junkyards/pick-n-pulls had the solenoid taken. ;)
