I just found out while washing my truck today that I have an area on my roof (where the roof meets the windshield) that has rusted through. Has anyone else had issues with this? What other issues of rust do these trucks have (minus the frame rust problems)? What other areas should I be concerned about?

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
I've got lots of little rust spots in my doors and especially the roof immediately above the front window. For me most all of these can be attributed to gravel kicked up by other motorists hitting my truck. We get snow and ice here and instead of road salt they use volcanic gravel (aka lava rock) and it's super sharp and light so it gets airborne easily and causes my paint to chip.

So, to counter this annually in the dry summer months I use a rust-converter to convert any rust in chipped paint areas to primer and then I use touch up paint. I find the touch-up paint is not as durable as the original paint and over the course of a year (car washes, rain, snow, etc) I have to reapply. So over the years the number of affected areas has increased and I now have about 30-50 areas needing annual treatment, each about the size of a pencil eraser head.

Anyway this approach works well for me. One day I'll need to repaint the truck. No biggie. But the main point is to stave off rust. That stuff will ruin your vehicle - Toyotas seem especially vulnerable to rust and if it gets started it will quickly dissolve your metal.

    Red cinder.

Paint chips and a cracked windshield here and there but I'll take that stuff any day over that damn salt!!!! It would drive me nuts having my shit rust constantly at an outrageous rate because my state/county decides salt is the way to go!!!
