Are lifts harmful?

I am debating installing a 3" ultimate lift on my 07 Tacoma sport and was wondering if anyone knows if there is extra stress on the trucks bearings, suspension or if the truck will not be as dependable? Is there more wear and tear and side effects to running a lift and 4.5 backspacing? The reason for my concern is that the truck is my daily driver and without it I cannot pay for all the toys and mods (LOL)!

 

If its a 4x4, then the CVs and CV boots will get more wear. The upper ball joints will also be stressed more as well. Wheel bearings will get stressed more from the increased leverage of the backspace on the wheels, as will the steering components. Things like UCAs and diff drops(4x4's) will help keep the truck reliable. I've been lifted all 35000 miles ive had my truck and all ive needed to replace were the UCAs to get better alignment specs and because one of the factory ball joint boots tore around 30k. I feel the looks and performance gains of being lifted outweigh the wear and tear it causes.

 

Lots of folks have lifts in their daily drivers and have no issues. Get quality parts and do the job right the first time...You'll be good to go.

 

x2! If you do it right the first time, It's worth it! But you can't go cheap, because in the long run, you'll be replacing it!

 

I would research 4.5" of backspacing, that sounds a little extreme to me.

 

Nope-4.5 inches is the max backspace possible with 2nd Gens, using a 0 to -12 offset. Any deeper and you have issues.

 

Wrong. Ive got 5" BS on my 17x9s. They fit awesome.

Edit: Just noticed- You have LR UCAs- I think that makes a difference.

 

Actually, ive ran them since the truck was brand new with no issue. I installed the UCAs at the beginning of this month. Ive got plenty of clearance everywhere with them before and after the aftermarket UCAs.

 

Are lifts harmful???? for a prius yes.

I have the toytec ult lift kit on my 09 with TC ucas I love no problems yet its been about 4000mi.

Are you running stock wheels? If so do you need spacers?

If not what wheels do you have and what back spacing?
