I know people have mentioned that it is a LOT of money for what you get for $1499.00.
My question is, if you were to spend the same amount specially here in Hawaii where shipping would cost a ton for this setup.
What components am I really gonna get for the same amount and Keeping the OEM Radio ?

    -
    LOC / DSP - $?
    - Wiring Harness - $?
    - Cables and Connectors - $?
    - Front Components - $?
    - 8"/10" Inch Sub woofer - $?
    - Custom Stealth Sub Enclosure without removing the plastic panel - $?
    - Component Amp - $?
    - Sub Amp - $?
    - Installation Fee if you do not DIY.

With all these associated cost to get something similar or something that will "Blow" away or "High End Gear", what do you think is the true cost of building/fabricating something like this?

I'm just really curious if anyone can maybe list the components I can purchase with my hard earned $1499.00 and have what looks to be a Plug and Play system.

I am NOT associated with this company in any way I just want a good breakdown of stuff I will need with similar budget.

From what i can see :
They use the same components in each of their kits, or at least a very large portion of components. This does make sense as it wouldn't be profitable to get different components for each specific vehicle. When all you have to do is change the wiring harness, Mounting templates and the sub box you can offer a kit for just about anything.

The main reason this kit appeals to me is that I won't have to deal with an aftermarket head unit. Not that aftermarket head units are bad...far from it...many of them are stupid awesome. However, having gone the aftermarket route in other vehicles with crappy stereos (WRX STi) I just do not want to deal with all of the unforeseen issues that always arise. The OEM+ kit looks like an extensive install (they have some very detailed videos on Youtube for their other cars...none for the Tacoma yet), but at least I can still retain my stock USB, stock steering wheel controls, stock SiriusXM, etc. As much as I like a good aftermarket kit, OEM+ nailed it with buyers like me who just want some better speakers, a bit more bass and the ease of keeping everything as close to stock as possible. Is it expensive? Yep. But, if I really want a better stereo experience I'm likely to go this route instead of forking over the cash at SonicElectronix or Crutchfield.

    Just my $0.02.

For $1499 I think it is a bit steep of a price for what you get. You can get a custom sub enclosure for $250 give or take ( Mr. Marv ) which will hold a Jl 10TW3 costs $250 to 299. You can get Rockford 400watt amp to push it 400x1 for under $200. Then some of the decent single din hu run $150... On clearance or double din DVDs for $300. Then you swap out door speakers with some nice Jl coax speakers and your good to go... Well under $1499. A little patience and reading install is pretty much smooth sailing. Shop probably charge you $300 to install

I agree with everything you've stated. Heck, the install for the OEM+ system looks to be as extensive as any aftermarket install. But, again the main reason I think this system appeals to many buyers is the ability to "plug into" the stock system to some extent.

Yes the install of the oem+ system is similar to installing after market system other than it is plug and play. You wouldn't have to wire up a loc, run rca's, or remote wires with the oem+ system. but yes the changing of the speakers is more or less the same work no matter what route you go.

the plus to the oem+ system are for the ones who are not audio inclined or know how to wire up a aftermarket system or know how to shop for one or make their own sub box and so on. For those who are knowledgeable or have a basic sense, you could build a good system for the same price using the oem head unit or a system for cheaper.

I have had both spectrum's, full blown aftermarket system and I have had a oem system too. I loved the oem system and I loved my aftermarket - it is really all into a personal opinion.

To answer the question - I am pretty sure they are using most of the same components among all the different cars. I do know the dsp and the sub boxes are different as they build the box specific to a vehicle and they tune the dsp specific to the vehicle, but i'm sure a 6.5" 2 way is the same no matter the car and so on.

I spoke to them today. They seem to be enthusiasts that pretty much want what us car guys want out of our system (OEM or not).
They also mentioned that they will be releasing a video of Tacoma specific installation process within 48 hours.

I can't wait to see the video myself. Should be pretty interesting.

In any case, I did place my order today and will have a thread on my experience from the ordering process to the installation and then listening experience.

Will update as soon as the package arrives.

That's awesome Mike. I look forward to hearing about your installation experience. Definitely waiting for the video on Youtube from OEM+.

For that price I'll go custom. Looks nice but better options out there. Support your local shops.

I received a link from OEM+ this morning to their Tacoma Install Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzLeq1Fnnx0

I hope this helps. Seems like a very straight forward install. Should be less than 2 hours if no Sound Deadening is applied.

    Enjoy

    Mike,

I'm about to take the plunge as well - I just spend about 45 minutes on the phone with them asking a ton of questions. (they picked up a call on a Saturday afternoon, how cool is that?)

First of all - if you plan on changing your head unit down the road, they will re-tune the DSP for free (you have to pay shipping to send the amp in) - that will keep the sound quality consistent regardless of which head unit you have and how it colors the music. I think it is great.

The support seems terrific, and the reason I am going this route is while I have (attempted) to build systems in the past, I'm getting older and lazy, and I hate trying to tune a system that "does it all" - I listen to just about everything. I don't want bragging rights, I just want a bad-a$$ system that is inconspicuous and plays whatever I feel like listening to without having to tweak EQ, or amp settings, or whatever.

Damn, I AM getting old ...

Getting Old does account for my laziness as well. I have done my full Installs in the past and even had a booth car (for car audio) at CES. Gone are the days of having back pains while crawling all over the trunk and breathing resin and bondo dust for custom installs.

The most I will get into with this truck is some sound deadening and if my son is willing to help me (he is 15 now), we can maybe work on a little custom work with him doing most of the work while I "supervise". He is actually very excited to get this OEM+ install going as its going to be his first go around at car audio stuff :)

And mine is on order as well - now I've got a project in a few weeks! I'm going to sound deaden the doors during install, and probably run the wiring for my seat heaters as well - that'll make for an all-day project instead of a few hours LOL

    Mike,

Thank you for that video link! Like you said, looks fairly straight forward. This is becoming more and more tempting to pull the trigger on this setup.

    Oooh...seat heaters...resist thread drift.

What type of sound deadening are you going to put in the doors?
