Hey all, quick question on this.

I've already searched and I've read the manual so no burn required here!

Maintenance light came on at 13k this is a 2015 DCLB
I realize this light is suppose to flash at 4500k and stay on at 5k
    Alerting an oil change.
According to what I've read this is basically a mile counter.
I'm at my forth oil change as I switched to full synthetic at 500 and change every 3000k.
I've never had it come on before and have never reset it.
    Why now at 13k?

Is it on solid or just flashing for few seconds when you turn truck on?

Did you remember to reset it after oil change? Cause as far as I know its set to blink at 4500 miles and then go solid at 5000. If your on top of your oil changes don't worry about it and just reset the light

It wont cause any codes or anything its just there to remind you. I would just reset it and call it good. If it comes back on there might be a sensor that's funky.

I've never seen it. That's why I posted. I've never reset it and I just turned 13k
Yea, not really worried as I take good care of her.
Just wanted to see if anybody else has had this happen were it doesn't show till later mileage

According to the manual a sensor would be a check engine light

Yeah, its interesting that it just now turned on. I know if a dealer does your oil they usually reset it, but sometimes they forget.

Maybe someone can shed some light as I'm not sure how these oil sensors are set up in the tacomas. I know my girlfriends Chevy had an oil light but what was interesting is it told you the life of the oil that was left. So when she was using conventional it would trip the light around 4k miles and varied with driving. When we switched it to synthetic she would get 5k before it would even set off the light and could even see 6 to 7k depending on driving etc.

Full synthetic is good for more than 3k & not sure why it'd take that long to come on. Mine hits religously at 4500 flash and solid at 5000. I used the trip B to measure it a few times as was mentioned.

Only thing I could think of was driving characteristics. I live in Cincinnati and did a weekend in Atlanta. 85mph for 7 hours both ways. Only 900 miles on this oil. As I use trip b to calculate the 3000k mile mark for service.

Yea, I agree that it's good for more than 3000 but I drive like I stole it and don't mind doing it every 3k.

There is No Oil Sensors in the Tacoma. None. The maintenance light works completely from mileage. 4,500 miles from the last reset it will flash upon startup and then go away. 5,000 miles after the last reset it will come on at startup and stay on. No sensing involved.

You use synthetic oil and change it at 3000 mile intervals. That is just wasteful use of resources and money. Use your brain.

What ever works for you...I used to live nearby in WestChester right on US 42. I use Mobil 1 and change it every 5k. My company car has a mandated 7.5k interval. The light is just a mile counter, and not sure why it didn't go off earlier. With your intervals, reset and forget!

    Yea, that's what I did.
The reason for the original post was the fact that I had not seen it until 13000.
Wanted to see if anybody else had have this happen also.
Was wandering if it was just a mile counter or it was a driving condition/oil breakdown indicator.
    Thanks for all the responses!
    Cheers

Yep, maybe it is! But it's the way I do it.
My last truck was a 92 Toyota that I sold for 2k with 650k miles on it.
