Hey guys lately I've been considering selling my tacoma because it is in such good condition with low miles and I want to keep it that way so it's been sitting in the garage most of the time I have owned it. So I posted it up for sale on craigslist for $17,000 to see if there was an interest and surprising I got a ton at the price. One guy wants give me $16,500 for the truck but I am having second thoughts about selling it. A little info on my truck is 2004 DC TRD 4x4 with 87k miles in excellent condition. No rust on it at all since it was a California truck it's whole life. It has 2 pervious owners who were all over the age of 60. I wanted to see if there are other owners that have regretted selling or who have backed out of selling there trucks.

At this point, it's nearly irreplaceable. Can't get a truck like that new anymore and you'll have quite the search to find one like yours again.

DC, TRD, 4x4, last year of the 1st gen. That's a great combination.

its as rare as free money as you found out buy the interest you got at what you "thought" was a high price for it.

I would rather buy yours at $17k all day long and feel like I got an unbelievable great deal on it, then buy anything new they sell today

If it sits in your garage most of the time I'm assuming you must have another vehicle? If that is the case then sell the damn thing and invest the money.

Bump the price up to $20K and see if some sucker will pay.

    $17000?!?

Damn, your truck is exceptionally clean but thats more then i would pay. I understand the sentimental value, but if someone will give you 18 or 19 for it, cant say.

Keep it, part of the reason I bought a 2015, last of the 2nd gens, hopefully patience will pay off and mine will be worth similar in ten years.

Ya I do have another car. I wouldn't be able to invest the money cause I owe 15k on it.

Don't sell it unless it no longer meets your needs or imposes some sort of financial or spatial burden on you. I'm about to sell my 01 Xcab. VERY relucantly. But growing family, need to make practical changes.

If you owe $15k on it, there's no point on letting it sit in your garage doing nothing. Sell it, pay off the loan and move on. It's not like you want to use it now because it's too nice. Let someone give you more than it's worth (also known as "market value" for the 1st gens) and move on. If you end up regretting it, well, you will also realize that you should have used it more.

    this ^^^^

if you dont use it and you owe $15k in loans on it, then as mentioned above, relist it at $20k and wait for any offer above 18k and take it.

if you owned it free and clear, then I would say keep it

Sorry, didn't go through all the posts, but:

Got my '04 TRD Off-Road 4x4 /w 40k miles and one owner clean carfax for $16,250 (granted its an access cab), but it was from the dealership I work at. I saw above someone said list for $20k, which I agree with. I posted my camper shell and I get constant cash offers of $17k+ for my truck, but I can't part with it; love the truck too much, and know it will last longer than myself.

List it for more, you'll sell it I promise.

Sell it for what YOU think it's worth. That's some free market economics shit right there. If someone wants to buy it at that price, then in theory you should want to sell it. That being said, some things are priceless and I believe anything with a 5VZ-FE engine is just that.

I sold my 2004 offroad and I do miss it. I got a good dollar for it when I sold it. I live in a rust belt area where all vehicles have a shelf life no matter what you do to protect it so when I sold my 04 it was the right time as it was about to start costing money to keep it. I'm happy with my '13 Sport but I do miss that 1st gen from time to time and I get all nastolgic when I pull up to one on the road.

If I had a payment on a vehicle I didn't use, it would be gone in a heartbeat. Interest + depreciation really adds up in losses, plus odds are there are better things to actually use the payment money for.

I don't know how many people I've talked to that live in POS single wide trailers and have a hard time paying rent, but they have a $900/month car payment in the driveway. Take the car payment, add it as principle on your mortgage payment and that same 15k will probably save you close to 6 figures. (pulling numbers out of my butt)

Hell, depending on where you live that same 15k could be used as a down payment on a rental property that nets you a grand a month.

I money I owed was to a family member so there was no interest. I did end up letting the truck go yesterday because I decided I would much rather have a weekend rig that I am willing to hit the trails on instead of a really nice tacoma. I will really miss the truck cause it was pretty much like brand new but I can always buy another one once I finish school.

I bet it went for $19,450. It looks like it was in mint condition.
