First step is stop being stupid and always wear a seat belt, that way you can spend less time worrying about if your vehicle does or does not have a sun roof.

Let's talk about seatbelts.... Wear one and I wouldn't worry about a roll cage until you wear a seatbelt.

Hoops are going to play a huge role with animal impact. Will protect the grill and radiator, hood.

Me wearing a seatbelt has nothing to do with being covered in glass because one has a sun roof. I wouldn't want one even if I was wearing a belt.

I care more about the fact that my family and I are ok. All of us could be dead regardless of seatbelt status.

Someone says they were in a major life threatening wreck and the only thing you have to say is call them stupid?

You know belts have killed people because they have maintained them in a car that has been crushed?
My whole life I've always had a belt on. This was the singular time in my life I didn't. I'm not stupid, I'm human.
I've seen a lot of accidents working in an ER. Trust me, belts can kill people. Some people roll through those doors so LUCKY they didn't have a belt on.

You never know how life is going to work out. Many times you just have to roll with the punches.
I try to make decisions based on the best mathematical outcome, but life doesn't always work out the way we plan/prepare.

More people have survived with seat belts more than have been killed. Also if you want a roll cage then wear a seatbelt to make is semi effective.

What if you put seat belts on plate bumpers. Would that help???

We go from seeing how plate bumpers stand up to damage from an accident to arguing about how effective seat belts are IF you wear them.

First... glad you and your family are okay. When I was a teenager I never wore a seat belt until my truck rolled over two times and I ended up on the passenger side of the truck with my back against the door thus pushing it out away from the cab and breaking my ankle. I have never gotten back in a vehicle without wearing a seat belt from that day forward.

Being in the profession I'm in I have literately made thousands of accident scenes and I can tell you for certain that wearing a seat belt will save your life. There are those rare occurrences that happen to where not wearing a seat belt would have been better but those are very few and far between. I have a very good understanding of "mechanism of injury" and how vehicles react to different impacts. Trust me when I say that a sunroof is the least of your concerns. You could have just as easily been thrown out of one of the side windows. You made a bad mistake that I'm pretty sure you will never make again much like I did. But if your going to argue that seat belts kill people?... No... Very seldom do seat belts kill people. The vast majority save people and I'll take my chances wearing mine.

Agreed! I think they actually looked great on 80 series as it was a nice direct replacement but IMHO it looks like an afterthought on the Tacomas.

I was actually thinking about adding a cattle-catcher to mine, as there are so many little roach-mobiles around anymore (those slammed hondas), and I really don't want to catch Hep-C prying one out of my front suspension. the toughest part would be a way to easily remove it to go off-road while providing enough strength to nudge those biohazards to the curb.

I think they are primarily for light protection against the grille and headlights. I think it all depends on the situation. It probably helps offroad with brush, although that's hitting your sides anyway.
