When I installed my 3" lift and 265/75 tires I told myself I would eventually re gear when I was ready to move up to something like a 285/75 and add some armor. Well that time has come, I was going to send my 3rds in for a re gear and have a ARB locker installed. I was trying to decide between 4:56 and 4:88 when I realized my truck came with 4:56.

So the question is should I just keep the 4:56? After the new tires I experienced a big MPG loss but I haven't noticed much power loss and the tranny doesn't hunt for gears.

I have the V6 and non E locker. The truck sees a lot of highway miles at 65mph but I also off road a lot. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

How did you get 4.56s in there. Someone mod it before selling it to you?

Nope. It came that way. At least according to the VIN sticker. I'm the original owner. I read somewhere that if it comes stock with 31" tires you get the 4:56.

Not sure where you read that but 3.73 is what a stock v6 comes with.

I think 3.73 and 4.10's are the two choices your truck could have. Depending on 4 cyl or V6.

I'll let someone correct me but I'm almost positive a stock v6 4x4 comes with 3.73s. Mine did and that's why I went with 4.56s with 315s.

    My V6 4x4 had 3.73's.

Yeah, I'm not sure. I just know that my gear code is A04A. Every chart I've checked says that is 4:56. Maybe I have a rare gem:D

What do you rev at 55mph on stock tires?

I wish I had 4.56 stock! V6 is 3.73. I've been shopping used front carriers and they all are 3.73 or 4.10's.

That's the ratio in direct drive 1:1, 4th in the A750 trans.. still has 3.73 in 5th/overdrive..
So, technically you don't need 4.56s just keep it in 4th! ;)

I'm doing that next couple weeks: 285/75s with 4.10s (from 3.73) .. on the highway plenty.. it should do..

I'm not sure, I took them off in the first week of owing the truck and put on 265/75R16. Now I get 1600
Ohhhhhhh. Ok, thanks for clearing that up.

yes, 1600RPM at 55 is 3.73... by the way 265/75-16 are actually almost the perfect size for a dead-on speedo.. 265/70-16s factory are 6% too small, but better in torque..

And don't "lug" the engine too much, not healthy (now with slightly taller tires).. around town try to keep it in 4th 'till you go above 50MPH or highway.. especially if you got constant weight/load..

Thanks Guys. I guess I'll have to buy some new gears after all.

I run 265's for winter and 285's for summer and have never found any reason to regear, the 3.73's make for a nice all around gear for the v6.
MPG's only differ about 1 between the two and the speedo is about the same.
To me spending all that money for gears is a waste until you get over 35in tires..

(but I could be wrong) "not"

Is it flat where you are? I went to 265/75, and my truck feels like a dog. 'E' rated. We have a Lot of hills.
