I had to adjust my regulator. I had to screw it way down...more
    Than it should be, IMO

Maybe you knew this but. ..
turning the screw "in" (clockwise) increases the pressure.
I say that because it's kind of counter intuitive.

Technical question that I can't quite wrap my head around.
Going from 4.10 to 4.88 has set the speedo off about 10mph at 65. I'm racking up mileage at an alarming rate, lol. At 65 it reads 75 and at 75 it reads 85.

The speedo drive gear, would I go with a higher tooth count or a lower tooth count to get it back to accurate or at least close? I'm thinking a higher count to slow down the gear speed?

I dont know what gear you're replacing, but you'd want the "drive gear" smaller or the "driven gear" larger if that makes sense.

Transfer case drive gear for the speedometer cable.
More teeth should equal a slower rotation at center of the gear, less teeth should be a faster rotation at center...maybe?

I think a lot of guys keeping the stock gears but going to larger tire have been replacing the drive gear with less teeth. I went the other way so I should need more teeth?

I guess it would be considered the "driven" gear as we can't change the gear it's being driven by.

Imagine the drive gear has 10 teeth and the driven has 20.
every time the drive gear goes around twice, the driven goes once.

if you want to slow the driven speed down, it needs to be larger.

imagine the driven gear has 30 teeth now.
the drive gear has to go around 3 times to spin the driven once.

That's what I thought, more or less.
I guess I need one of these.

What's confusing about what you guys were talking about is number of teeth vs actual size of the gear. Two totally seperate things... but you seem to have it figured out;)

Not really separate. The teeth have to mesh so the spacing of the gears has to stay constant. Therefore more teeth = larger gear

Exactly, diameter of gear stays the same, tooth count is all that changes.

Yep. Weird, I know. I had to keep adjusting it clockwise until the
Hammering went away. Is it possible the regulator is fucked too?
