The sticker in my door says to run the fronts at 29 psi and the rears at 32psi. I just bought my truck new (DCSB OR) and the dealer/factory had them all at 39 psi. I'm not sure why they had them so high but wanted to double check that I should run them at 29/32 psi.

Because the guy putting the air in can't read. Or was hung over. Or texting. Or doesn't care much about his minimum wage job.

You're lucky they were that low. Some knuckleheads think the max pressure on the sidewall is the go-to number.

And points to you for being smart enough to check them. Recommend you check everything else too. Including fluid levels. And your spare.

Yup, my dealership puts mine at 35 psi....I know it's not a big deal but if a dealership can't get something as SIMPLE as tire pressure correct, what are they doing to my engine?

I keep my stock tires at the manufacture recommendation. 29 front and 32 rear. The truck drives great. I think 39psi is high.

You should be fine at 30 psi for all the tires including the spare.

Who to blame? Guy in the factory? Dealership for not checking?

    Personal opinion:

Get your tire rotation person to set your tires 3-5 pounds over what you really want because:
    1. Your tires aren't "cold" when he does service, unless you left the vehicle overnight.
    2. His gauge might not be accurate.
    3. Drive home, and first thing the next morning lower pressure to your preference before sun is on the tires and before you drive.
    4. Keep and use an accurate digital gauge, check at home once a month or if ambient temperature changes drastically.

The answer is obvious assuming you have factory stock tires. Later tonight or tomorrow morning when the tires are cold, set them to the correct pressure. Done.

Edit - not done, sorry. Then chalk test them to verify that the pressures are set to maximize wear. Im guessing that when empty those pressures are reversed. But remember that as you increase weight over stock you will need to add pressure. And if you haul anything heavy you will also need to add pressure to the rears. Good case for having a good 12V pump behind the seat even if you don't plan to air down and up for offroading. The 30 amp MV-50 and MF-1050 pumps do a great job for periodic use and only cost 50 to 70 bucks.

I've got aftermarket Michelin LTX M/S 2's on my Tacoma. Toyota dealer that sold them to me set them at 36psi (max is 44 I think?). Anyhow, I fiddled with them and when they did my first oil change and rotation their paperwork specifically said they set them all at 36psi. At least they are consistent?

Most all tire shops and service shops set the pressure high now for liability reasons. Under inflated tires are more susceptible to failure. Remember the Ford / Firestone fiasco?? The higher pressure does prevent catastrophic failure, but it does impact ride quality, handling and tire wear. The best alternative is CORRECT pressure, and that is why no one checks my tires but me.

Once upon a time they did that. Some years back they all started going by the sticker inside the door. That's what's been going on in my area for quite some time now. Maybe it's different elsewhere.

There's a million opinions on pressure. I've tried several combos, but what works best for me is 33 front/ 32 rear with stock 265/ 70/ 16's.

I've recently started running my LT265/75-16 E load tires at 40 psi, mostly for fuel economy reasons. But stock tires I'd run what the door sticker said.

The dealer did that to mine as well, 36 all around, door tag says 29/32.

They also insisted 0w20 wasn't suppose to be in my engine, even when we read the 2008 owners manual that states 0 focking W focking 20....and suggested my fill cap had been replaced, as it reads 0 and 5w20...

I used to run mine at recommend psi, have now bumped up to 35psi all around for improved mpg, I've averaged about 24 mpg the last two tankfuls at almost 100% city driving
