Am I the only one here who doesn't really care about re-sale value? I plan on driving my truck into the ground. Do you guys like to trade up every couple years or something? Just curious.

I hold onto mine for 7-8-9 years, and value is still important to me. Not the single focused drive it til it dies though.

Yeah i kinda want to sell the prerunner first. thats whats holding me back from jumping on this deal. id have a great cash down.

    its not that.

what im wondering is if I should by new now, or used later if i cant get a new one now.

could i get a used one later at a better price if it gets a depreciation hit due to the 3rd gen?

    thats what im asking here

Ok I guess I should re-phrase my comment. It's not that I "don't care" but it seems to be a huge driving point for a lot of people here and was just curious what their reasoning was

Maybe new 2015 on the lot will depreciate or become cheaper. But I don't think used values will fall much, if at all...

yep, when I bought the 2009 Prerunner the dealer said Gen 1s were hot. I think the Gen 2s will hold their value. You always have people that do not like the new ones. I have Homelink and outside temp so mine will do well in 4 years when I sell and buy a Tundra.

    Too few to list.
In my region, regardless of pre-runner or 4x4, tacoma's have always been hot. They don't seem to stay on the lot or for sale too long so I doubt re-sale will drop much if at all. I've seen 1st gens listed in or close to $20k and I've seen 2nd gen's list for as much as new ones. I have not seen Toyota incentives for Tacoma's since 2009 when the economy was rebuilding and even then, it was just $1K vs the big 3 offering $3-9K+ in incentives. Haven't you guys seen the Silverado commercials offering up to $9k+ off MSRP?

I'm hoping to keep my truck for 10-15 years realistically so resale value doesn't mean much to me either. However it is important if the vehicle got stolen or wrecked. 10 years from now with 120k miles on it it's still gone be a valuable vehicle compared to others in the class. So that would be good for me if I needed to get another comparable used truck as a replacement, or to use the money toward a new one.

Is the silver "15" an OR? If so, I would consider that a great price. Good luck.

Resale value is important regardless of how long you plan to hold on to your truck. What happens if you buy a brand new one and 2 years later you lose your job and can't afford it anymore? What happens if you die and your family has to sell it because they don't have the means to make the payments, pay the insurance and taxes? It eases my mind to know that I can at least get what I owe on anything that I finance.

On a side note, I traded my 2013 F150 for about 3500 more than I paid for it. Always good to make money! If you can actually make money by spending it...
