spit CV covers would be the way to go, otherwise you gots to yank the axle completely out and pull the boot over from the inner spline which presents an additional problem, you have to remove the smaller clip from the axle to get to the point you can install the new boots just sayin', said clip can be replaced with a fairly heavy zip tie, it can be a little daunting on the first go round if the mechanic has limited knowledge on auto repair....good way to learn though....

OK, been emailing with Eric about the Civic parts research. He is saying we also need a "steering rack bellow", which I think I might have been mistakenly calling a tie rod boot earlier in the thread. Going to look on RA, and maybe call that Honda dude back.........I don't see anything called "steering rack bellow" on those diagrams, and I want to know the dealer price then the part number to look at aftermarkets on RA.

Here's the diagram the Honda guy emailed about the bellow boot/tie rod thing. He said we'd need #14 in the diagram. I kinda remember getting a few pics of the Civ when Eric did some stuff to it a few weeks ago, going to look and see if there's any useful pics.......

Pretty sure these are the bellow boot/tie rod thing Eric mentioned - a close up shot and a distance shot.

Or is that some other part? Seems weird that the Honda tech didn't point that out, because it looks totally destroyed, right?

Holy crap, I just found some pics of when I very first bought the Civ.

I was wrong, I've had it 15 years. Actually, the 15 year anniversary is right now. Got it in August of 2000.

I am wearing BIRKENSTOCKS in the picture. And the red paint looks perfect!! And I have some crazy haircut and am skinny as a rail. Wow. I look like a completely different person now than when I bought that car. It's been a lotta years of togetherness. She's gonna make this one last push for me now, and on the cheap too. I can feel it guys. :D

Ha!! Didn't realize Eric got some pics of the blue furry puppet Honda salesman, check it out, I wasn't making it up!!

Now do you guys see why we ran the other way from buying a new car???? MUCH easier to fix this one than deal with wacko scenarios like that!!

well post the picture then, lets see that baby when she still had some life left in it

and I don't care if a puppet sells me a car or the guy wearing the puppet, as long as the price is right. I would buy a car from boy george, alice cooper, or even marylin manson as long as the price was right lol.

That's funny. I just found 4 rolls of film that I never developed. I'm afraid to turn them in for developing...there might be stuff on there I don't want the Mrs to see.

OK, totally different subject but came across this pic and wanted to share. These are so yummy and so easy, a great summer appetizer or small meal!!

    Seafood Margaritas!!

Little precooked shrimpies, or chopped up bigger ones
Can of crabmeat (or some dungeness crab if you have it!)
    Cilantro
    Mango
    Lime segments
    Orange segments
    Lime juice

YUM!! MUST serve with an icey cold margarita!! :proposetoast: And chips and salsa of course! :hungry:

We just made this again a couple days ago, and added some chopped up cucumber. Yum. Also thinking you could add pineapple too, and I bet it would be awesome.

Worth trying, give it a shot, it's super easy!! Chop it all up, mix it together, and eat! :hungry:

@keakar , I still need to try your crabcake recipe. It's still been so hot here, that most of the time we wind up making cold food like this recipe, or salads, or getting take out. I hate heating up the house using the stove or oven this time of year. I think there's some rain coming up in our forecast, maybe I'll make them then! I keep thinking about them and how yummy they are going to be

Also keakar is giving you very sound advise on that stinkin civic. I also use fleabay quite a lot too. Its a good place to utilize as well on top of RA and Amazon! You should get more familiar with it. It seems a lot of effort and unneeded stress has become of this civic revival idea.

After lots more talking, we decided we want to try to keep it going a little bit longer. It would make life a lot easier for us in the big picture, so for now it's kind of our best bet, if we can keep the spending to a very small amount to keep it safe to drive just a bit longer. And it looks like we might be able to.

Definitely going to work on getting some good pics of the stuff, like @koditten mentioned. It'd be good to get a closer look at all of it anyway, to be sure we understand what all is involved in these potential repairs. And it would be great to get a bunch of expert eyes to evaluate the condition of some of this stuff! I really have no clue if shit is about to fall apart or if these are minor beginnings of problems, because we never really talked to the tech directly or looked closely ourselves, other than that bellow boot/tie rod thingy that's ripped (the photo I posted). Hopefully some pics of all that other crap, especially those bushings, coming shortly!!

Do you guys think I need to change the title to "Jen's Ongoing Vehicle Problems" or ????????
