The 16" painted steel rims on my truck have 265/70/16 tires on them.
Today I bought a set of four 17" sport rims. I have read that I can put 265/65/17 tires on these rims as well as 265/70/17. The latter will raise my truck 1/2 inch.

The problem is....my tire guy says no to using 265/70/17 tires. Who is right here?

    Roughly 10.8" x 32.1" or 10.4" x 32.6"

Go with the 255/75-17s for sure

Also, fire the "tire guy" if he's never heard of +1 sizes.

EDIT: My quick calc was a little off but here you go:
