I went to a dealership today to look at a 2009 Access Cab TRD OR 4X4 with 90k miles with and aftermarket tires, a leveling kit, and a larger exhaust on it. The test drive went well, and I liked the overall feel of the car, but there were a good amount of scratches on it, and it had obviously been offroaded. When I made them an offer of 18,000 (The KBB is 18,400), they declined and said that they couldn't go down from the asking price of 21,500. This wasn't the typical negotiating tactic-the manager said that it was the sticker price or no deal and really meant it. Is it overvalued, or am I missing something?

    Thanks

What would you say a good price would be? They've had it for 3 months and said that they've "Already marked it down enough." I know that this isn't true, but I don't understand why they wouldn't even entertain 18k.

I would say them holding out for anything above KBB is just wishful thinking or waiting for some idiot to pull the trigger because they want the upgrades. But the scratches and the fact that it was taken offroad would place it below KBB for me.

Walk away, let that sucker sit there for a few more days and see what happens. If they don't call you, check back at the end of the month and see if they still have it and make them the same offer, or even lower. Those bastards get desperate at the end of the month. I bought mine on the 31st of july and they were asking nearly 32k for it. Got it out the door at 28.

Thats what I was thinking. I left my number with them, and told them that if they could make me a better offer to contact me. I've got the salesman's cell so I'll call if I don't hear from them in the next week.
