Little guy is 5 ½ months old now. He's got a great personality. -- very laid back and just happy to be around.

    Have guns. Will travel.

I love Iggies. They are great. I follow a couple of Swedish breeders (have no idea how the hell I came across them) and they are awesome. Got to love the outfits they have to wear to keep warm

Morning swim. We're lucky to have a pond about 300 yds behind the house.

We have been taking my dog to a field thats lit at night to play soccer/frisbee since hour long walks dont tire him at all. One of the nights there was a groundhog running around the field, so since we think he has some kind of hound in him I tested out my theory...he followed the same trail the groundhog took to his hole.

Fast forward a few nights, my dog is laying on his back doing a little dance/squirm thing. I think nothing of it because he does it pretty often, then all of a sudden he jumps up and starts heading towards the hole. The thing that I noticed is that as he was going towards it, the check cord just laid on the ground as he got further and futher away. Little turd managed to unclip his check cord from his harness so he could go back and sniff for the groundhog!

That is a great picture! There is a guy on another board that takes a lot of pictures in ND pheasant hunting and several of his have made PF. One of the best to me is a springer cutting off a cripple, I'd call it lights out

My now old man, this was soon after he came home. I was trying to reload some shells and he kept getting underfoot so I put him in an old keg of Red Dot on the bench. It is where my avatar came from.

My baby when I brought her home. And then a month and a half later, at 3 months old, training in the back yard. Pointing a pheasant wing.

Her legs are so damned long now. She's a mutant. But, she covers a lot of ground. She's a big runner.

Katie usually stays 100-150 yds, I try to keep Augie under 200 yds. He can't resist wide open spaces.

When I first hunted behind GSP's, the guy I hunted with had two females that took off and were out of sight much of the time. Every now and then, we'd see a bird flush. That would piss me off, as the hunting here in Cal is usually one or two birds. Then more hunting to find one or two more birds. So, I figured if I ever got a GSP I wouldn't let it get so far out. Now that I have one, and did a bunch of training, I don't mind it much. So long as she holds point and doesn't nudge the bird I'm good. And if I ever get her to hold to shot, I could enter her in Field Trials, and I'm told they love to see the dogs get out there. But, mostly, it's a kick in the butt to see them run.

When I started training Katie I did AKC Hunt Tests. Very similar to field trials. There are graduated tests, Junior, Senior and Master Hunter. It goes progressively from point to steady to wing then to wing and shot and finally to wing, shot and fall. All the time your worried about style. The latest idea of style is upright with a 12 o'clock tail. I prefer the old horizontal point
and really get off if there's a front paw raised. You can burn a whole weekend standing in parking lot waiting your turn. The upside is that you meet some great dog folks
and people with some in depth knowlege. I don't want robots, and letting them break on the shot gives them some spontaneity along with safety. When it come to point Augie is really stylish, but he has a bunch of HoF dogs in his pedigree. Katie's body just turns to stone in whatever position she is in when she scents the bird. I call them "pretzel points". She is really fun to watch.
