I'm no expert, but I have ICONS. And as everybody else said, the faster you go, the smoother the ride. Slow on washboards sucks, but go fast and it feels like you just floating over. So nice.

Going fast over washboard roads my factory suspension felt great too ;)
That's because you are not working the suspension much at all. I think it's funny when I hear people say this. Shoot every truck or car I have ridden in where the road was washboard the vehicle felt great at speed.

Please don't tell me you guys are spending big bucks on performance suspension to tackle washboard roads.

Yeah I'm with rock on this one. My family owns some farm land that I occasionally run the truck up and down the fields for giggles. Alot of it is pure washboards some are even tough on the fourwheeler. Can't drive any truck with a stock suspension through the field at more then 10 mph without braking or getting beat up. Now that I have the Tacoma with the Baja package although it's not as good as icon or foxs I can mob through it at 45+

    Not a joke at all.
I guess maybe its the washboard roads you guys are driving on, they might be closer to small whoops.

But yeah my first car was an older Honda CRX, I'd fly down washboard roads like nothing. The passenger tires helped a lot because they are more forgiving.

Don't mean to offend anyone, but washboards roads I've been able to tackle with just about any car/truck I've driven. There's always that sweet spot where the ride smooths out, its just a matter of finding the right speed.

Honestly if all I was worried about was driving down washboards rods about the most I'd put into my suspension would be 5100. That's just me though.

    Thats actually incorrect

Its smooths out because at speed your suspension is hardly cycling; its not dipping down and instead skipping over the tops.

For the record I chose FOX over Icon.
The reason I chose FOX is because replacement parts (heims, shims, different size rod ends.....) are more readily available. This and most of the folks I know run and trust FOX and are more familiar with them. This helps a bunch when trying to dial things in; valving is key.

That said out of the box the Icons perform pretty darn good, at least in the trucks I've ridden in. So maybe if you have no intentions to modify/tune the shocks Icon might be a good choice.

Cost wise, I would say FOX is more affordable over Icon.

Icon doesn't publish a whole lot of information for the rebuilding process, if any. I know around here no shop will touch them so they have to be sent off. That alone would push me towards FOX. TBH right now I'm saving up for some 2.5's. I want ADS or FOX.

You posted a video of someone going through a section of whoops, I'm not sure what your point is. Are you purposing this is what your washboard roads look like?

    Interesting stuff

videos of my suspension while i travel over washboard roads sure dont look like they're just "gliding" across the top. Sure looks like a whole lot of suspension cycling to me.

I think there is a different definition of washboard in Cali. Here washboard roads look like this:

    images_4f3c0c06105a9615f696d05eac58594c4d390383.jpg

No suspension at speed is going to cycle that fast I would think.

I vote Icons. Either shock can be valved to fit your personal needs but Icon stands behind their product. I had a faulty rear shock from them, they fixed it and sent it back to me free of charge. From what I have heard Fox doesnt stand behind their product like that.

A whole lot would depend on the how bad the washboard is. I never said there's no movement at all, in fact I said... "That's because you are not working the suspension much at all" (in reference to washboard roads).

So no one on here has tackled washboard roads without running high end performance shocks

Hmm, in my experience that doesn't make sense. I get what you are saying but on true washboards when the truck is at high speeds the suspension doesn't make full travel. You are literally jumping off the top of each little rut. Anyways, it doesn't matter, either way the Fox is still going to feel better than stock.

I've been in a Raptor on washboard roads. Fox definitely helps.
