I recently bought a 2012 tacoma with hardly any miles on it for 22,000. Im concerned that I overpaid because it is only a 4 cylinder, no 4wd, no trd, and not lifted. The truck looks brand new but did I still overpay? I also really badly want to lift it, get new tires, and v6! Is it worth pimping out or should I just wait and eventually get a different truck when im older. This is my first truck please give me some advice. Should I at least lift it? It drives me crazy how low it is.

Doesn't matter, you already bought it so enjoy it.

To OP: I think you overpaid by a lot even if it's access cab or regular cab. I don't know if they make double cab in 4 cylinder...but you didn't mention what kind of Taco you have. Was this stock? 22K was retail for ACCESS cabs I think...I know 2012 MSRP was about 18K for regular cab during that time. So it'll help to mention what flavor taco you have.

Depends on what your needs are... if you want gas mileage...V6 will consume more...but you want to lift and get bigger tires probably...so either you need to regear or have to downshift going uphill. Surprising Taco hold there resell value and if I"m not mistaken...has the highest resell value.

As a general rule...I don't pay more then what the car cost when it's new.

Agreed. I never look at homes in my neighborhood after I buy a new house. It would only lead to bad things out of my control.

At this point do what makes you happy. No matter what you paid you should always tailor your modifications so that you receive the maximum amount of enjoyment. That is of course taking into consideration a reasonable budget. If you're going to school and working part time don't blow your wad on upgrades.

Its the past man. Dont let the numbers bother you. I know, easier said then done as I think the same as you. 20 years from now you wont even remember what you paid for the truck. Just enjoy it my man.

That is the newest trim available from Toyota in the US. Its a very very odd design because its a double cab with pre runner 4x4 puffed out flares with a sunken in 5 lug suspension.

They were around 22k new in 2012 I believe

Only a 4cyl and auto as options I think..

I say throw some bigger tires and some 16 inch wheels on it and enjoy. Then when you have to have 4x4 trade it in.

EDIT: The amount of time and money put into modifying to your standards is going to cost more

Yours is not pre-runner, those are 6 lug with a lifted suspension the same height as the 4x4.

Thats a base model with the lowest trim options however it has the big fender flares, not sure why Toyota did that on that model only. Looks very off....
