Regular cab base like yours is the lowest price model avail, the double cab base was the highest priced base.

I'd say give it a couple years before you do anything permanent to it. For now just stick with things you can take back off and put back to stock if you need to resell it. These trucks hold their value extremely well so don't do any permanent mods until you're absolutely sure you're never letting it go. As for changing the i4 out for a V6 or upgrading from RWD to 4WD...not a good idea. Much safer and cheaper to trade it in for one that has the options you want.

Don't sweat paying a higher than average price...just try not to make a habit of it. :) Over next fifty or sixty years you will make a lot of really good deals and you will make some more really bad ones. It all comes out in the wash.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
    Sounds like a collectors item.

I just did a search on www.kbb.com and www.edmunds.com in my zip code. For a bare bones 2012 double cab, steel wheels, 4 cyl, manual transmission with 20,000 miles KBB is showing $22,600-$27,800 with around $25,000 as average from a dealer. Edmunds says that truck doesn't exist, but are showing over $18,000 for a base 2012 regular cab. Depending on where he lives he might not have overpaid.

You could have done much worse, you have a good truck that will last a long time for reasonable money. I know people who lost $22K when they registered the car making it used. Enjoy the ride!

For some perspective, I bought my 2015 access cab base model new for $20,004 just 4 months ago. I then spent about $500 putting in the back-up camera, cruise control and intermittent wipers.

It's yours now, don't worry what you paid and modify it as you see fit. Drive it and enjoy it.

Wow ..double cab with 4 cylinder...I thought my truck is slow as regular cab... I'd say wait a year before you mod your truck. If you like it...mod it til your happy...just don't sink a lot of money into it then find out that it's too weak or slow for you double cab. I didn't know double cab come in 2.7L. I say you still overpaid...but not as much as if it was a regular cab.

Just drive it and then wait a year...if you like the 2016 model...then get something better. But the 4 bangers are just too weak for double cab...my 2 cents.

    Same as everybody else...
You've already bought it so enjoy the truck. There are mods and things you can do that will make her your own that are relatively cheap.A bonus is that you'll gain experience turning a wrench.Tacomas are tougher than Sheffield Steel, your truck will last as long as you let it.
