Need help : how to remove old paint from bed

Picked up this 2012 a week ago and its clean aside from this mess. Any advice on how to get rid of this? I know a lil elbow grease, but damm! Why couldn't the last owner cover the thing up!!!! If you look closely they even left a razor blade stuck on there with some old putty! SMH

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

Paint thinner or mineral spirits might do the trick, but it might just spread it out too.

Good stuff. Be careful not to get it on your paint. It will sometimes dull the finish. Not a big deal on the composite bed. Also wear gloves. Do yourself a favor and don't get the aerosol, use the pour-out kind. Best advice is to put it on a rag (not a paper towel) and work it into the paint. Have a clean paper towel handy to wipe up the thinned paint or else you're just going to spread it around and make a lager, less noticeable mess.

 

Not a whole lot of solvents that can effectively get the paint without attacking the plastic bed as well. This includes goof-oof, which is a good suggestion, but you need to be aware it will probably haze the plastic.

I would test a citrus based remover in a small hidden area.

 

I would actually consider a roll on or spray on bedliner if that were mine. Cover it over and start fresh.

 

Try a brush and hot/warm soapy water. Some of the paint looks like latex based. Might try self serve car wash with the high power nozzles.

It's a nice truck, and a newer truck.

A pressure washer strong enough to blow paint off will also damage the bed surface, IMO. I work with them regularly and I wouldn't recommend that method unless you know what you're doing with a wand. A heated pressure washer might help, but again.. due caution.

I think Line X is the best liner you could add, but really depends on how you plan on using it. So far as I've seen it withstands abuse better than the roll on liners, but if you're not really a hard use truck bed user then it's likely more cost effective to roll your own at home in the driveway.

I was going to suggest the heated pressure washer also. Go big or go home.

After all can it really get much worse?

 

He could burn the shit out of the bed surface and then end up bedlining it anyway.

I can easily scorch concrete without the heater running. Easier still with it running as the pressure increases.

It might be worth trying if there is easy access to a heated pressure washer but IMO I wouldn't bother.

 

I wasn't saying use a 4000 psi pressure washer with a turbo tip. I had some paint in my bed. I threw some gas on it and used a green tip and it came right off. Either way it's a truck and it is designed to haul stuff.
