Best/Proper Way To Debadge????

I hear a heat gun, IN WARM WEATHER, with dental floss and Goof-Off?

 

I did mine this weekend using a blow dryer and 6LB fishing line.

 

Tomonian, how careful were you with the heat being applied to the paint? also would the manufacture date of my truck being 9-2009 pose a problem? i know paint needs to cure, but unsure of about how long...

 

I used a blow dryer so the heat was never an issue. Heat guns can get super hot so I wouldn't suggest using one. As far as the curing question I cant answer that. I painted my rims, the body emblems and grill emblem in one day. The most tedious part of the whole process was cutting the tape for the remount.

yeap,hair dryer and fishing line works great.

 

Yea definitely use fishing line instead of dental floss. Dental floss tears too easily. You can use Goo Gone(not Goof Off, I think that's for something else) to get any remaining adhesive off.

 

anyone know if its safe to debadge if the production date on the truck was only one month ago? or should i wait a little while longer?

 

Wolfpack_5150 and I debadged our trucks-here is what we noticed:

Using a hair dryer helps out a ton....dont use a heat gun as they can get way to hot and all that heat is not needed. We used 20 lb test and it still broke on us a few times....so finesse is the key...just slowly work it back and forth and try not to get it hung up on things. We then rubbed off all of the left over tape with our fingers and then brought out the goo gone...even then you could still see where the badging used to be so we then buffed out the paint with some rubbing compound, scratch remover and wax

 

go for it punkass,remember your just using a hair dryer,not heat gun.keep it away about 4" and move it back and forth on the emblem.dont hold it on on one spot. u should b fine.good luck.

 

use superline, or fireline for the fishing string. It will not break, and is as skinny as 10lb test line. I did mine on a brand new truckand didn't have any problems, didn't even use a hair dryer or heat gun. As GEARAHOLIC said, you can roll the adhesive off with your fingers right after you pull off the emblems.

 

Fishing line and a good pair of leather gloves. You will regret it if you dont use the latter of the two. Just take your time and use a sort of sawing action while applying pressure to the line.

If it is cold out side or your truck has not been in direct sunlight prior to the start of your debadging, use a heat gun or hair dryer.

 

Oh and the newer the truck, the better. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to get all the adhesive off from the paint.

 

I never use a hair dryer... Just leave it out in the sun all day, as soon as 3 o'clock hits, the badges come RIGHT off with ease with fishing line.

I removed side badges the day I brought it home & because I installed door guards where the emblems were. Yes, newer the better for debadging.
