Thanks for sharing. I'm in decision mode right now.

Apparently with Win7 you have to format your hard drive before installing so any existing programs will be gone. You would have to re-install them all and if they are too old to install that's just too bad for you.

As I understand it though, I can run WinXP and other old pc programs right on an Apple using aftermarket software (Parallels). Including Word, Excel, etc. I have some older programs that I still need to use occasionally(AutoCAD).
Apple tells me they can also convert all my old saved emails (business) to Apple format from Outlook format so I can read them if necessary.

Add into that the fact that Apples have a lower crash and virus rate makes the Apple seem like, at least for me, a much better setup.

My next computer will be a Mac, but my 3 year old Gateway PC with XP has been very reliable. I think XP is Windows best system to date. JMO.

    Not too fast there.

It's true if going from XP to Win7, you'll have to reformat.

It's also true you can run windows and it's programs on a Mac.
    BUT
You still have to have a full licensed copy of Windows to install onto your new Mac and run in Parallels or Bootcamp. You will have to reinstall all your old programs onto the new computer also (which seemed to be an issue for you earlier). You can't just magically run your old programs from your old computer with Apple fairy dust.

Another option is Crossover, that doesn't require a windows installation, but it also has issues with running some applications very well, some so-so, and some not at all.

you will not find a laptop that will run windows better than a mac. i have a friend that has a windows experience close to 7 on his mbp 17.
i am getting ready to buy their pro server for a project at school. to the tune of 5500 bucks. i will prob do parallels or vmware's version so i can run win in os x snow leopard.

Never liked Macs myself. I like building my own systems anyways. Only time I don't is when I get a laptop and I use mine so little that what I have now ill be good enough for a long time.

I think the HP Envy's are made to compete with the macs not the pavillions. The only lame thing with that is no optical drive.

I've been a hardcore PC user for years and kept XP until Windows 7 finally came out. Well I bought the discounted student version download for $30 and of course I ran into a ton of troubles. You have to make your own .iso because it doesn't unpack correctly, then you have to boot from the disc.... its a huge freakin pain and I still don't have it installed because the install gets hung up at around 10% with some error.

Super frustrated but I feel like I'm not surprised...

I did buy a new Macbook Pro a couple weeks ago and I freakin love this thing! Best laptops you can buy, no doubt! Awesome battery life, super fast system, sleek design, everything you could basically want in a laptop!

I love em both but this M7 thing is really pissing me off...

I am a big fan of my Lenovo. Macs are not worth what they cost IMO, but if you have to have a pretty looking notebook more power to you.

There are people who don't have a problem with windows and then there are mac fanboys. Just goes to show advertising works. I honestly will never use a mac because 1: they are overpriced, your just paying for the OS and 2: nothing works on mac. So if i just wanna do graphical things and cruise the internet, maybe a mac when they aren't overpriced.
