    It appears the AFE's are not 50 state legal. Perhaps that's just a paperwork exercise for them, but I don't want the headers to fail my inspection. JBA's are legal, but you'll have to weld the cat on. Thorley website says pending approval.

    According to Cindy at Magnuson, they are still manufacturing superchargers & fit kits for Toyota. She said she would email me when they stop production. They are also still under contract by Toyota to make them. She did say it will be very soon when that contract is up. I think she is the best source for this information.

    DT Short Tubes for Tacoma's(no matter the generation) are all covered under CARB Executive Order D-540-4.

    They have to say "pending" because it does take a while for them(the model years) to actually be shown in amended EO documents on the on the ARB.CA.GOV page, but you will be fine come smog inspection time since the install fits the criteria of what is smog legal.

    They all require factory emissions systems to be retained(stock cats) upon installation which makes them CA smog legal.

    So, unless you have welding skills (I don't), what's the preferred method of getting the headers installed/cats welded on? Muffler shop? Speed shop? High School shop class? That may sound like a stupid question, but I asked the guy that welded my sliders on and he didn't jump up and down at the opportunity to weld on headers/cats. Why couldn't Toyota put a flange there?

    Most legit muffler shops should be able to knock out the install. One local to me has been doing them on the 4.0 Tacos for years----JBA and Thorleys.

    Toyota didn't put a flange there because you're not "supposed" to tamper with factory emissions equipment(meaning, be able to unbolt anything) AND they want to be able to bend you over when your factory cats take a dump and you're forced to buy brand new factory headers with cats.

    These are headers for the 1GR(not a "brand" name, but ones made by an XRU member for his turbo kits) and you can see how easily you can put a v-band to simplify everything:

    Now take a look at a set of DT shorties welded to factory cats:

    V-band would be simple to throw on those ^^^^ and make a test pipe for when it's not smog time.
