So I acquired a 99 taco last week and it has a weird thing going on with the clear coat / paint job so I am debating on what to do. Keep in mind that I want to take it on trails etc but would still like a descent looking ride as it would be my primary vehicle.

    Plasti dip
    rhino line
    or respray the truck

mine is separating and forming bubble like areas that peel off like dead skin after a sun burn. I have the complete cab corner front roof to bottom of the access window peeled off on passenger side and the third tail light has a big white area all around it that im sure will crack and peel off sometime this year. the hood seams fine but the front fenders have some of the pitting your seeing

im told the paint is old and dried out so the clear coat is separating from the color coat so it needs a respray. the options are to sand down past the clear coat and reclear it or the better solution is to take it to metal and do it all right again from the start.

anything you put on top of it will peel off at some point since it is separating between the clear coat and the color coat no longer having a strong bond to each other.

I just say to hell with it, its a truck, its not supposed to be pretty

I might try making it look a bit bitter by wet sanding etc for a bit and in a couple months do a respray. Very true a truck isn't supposed to be perfect.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Rhino line it! This is my '72 Bronco with a forest green rhino job. See that big crease in the fender? The rhino protected it a bunch and didn't scratch off. If it weren't for the rhino, I think there'd be a huge gash right there and any paint on or around it would be nonexistent. It makes the metal stronger and is a rust inhibitor as well, plus it looks fricking cool if you ask me.

I will say this, they tested rhino liner as a flame retardant and bomb proofing and it made a big difference in both protections. they were shocked at how well it worked to defuse the shockwave blast of an IED such as a truck blowing up in front of a building.

its also being used down here as a once in a lifetime colored to your color house coating, they call it rhino shield lol.

the lowest LMCO 496 plus tax
the middle diamond 730.96 plus tax
the best Glasurit 1,000 plus tax , should add 30 for better primer if you go that high...

Then I said to myself.... not now....let's hold to pay the electric car at end of 2019:lalala:
