New speakers, bad sound

So after installing my USA Spec ipod adapter, I decided to put new speakers in the truck. I was very happy with the stock system, but wanted to upgrade to bigger sound.

Went down to my local stereo shop and told them I wanted to replace all 4 speakers and expressed my concern over using the stock head unit. They insured me the Tacoma HU was sufficient, however, I should only replace the front speakers since I don't put passengers in the back.

So instead of the 3-ways, he talked me into component speakers (2X price). Again, I expressed my concern about the stock head unit and they said no worries. $400 and 2 hours later I came back to pick up my truck and it sounded worse. I played around with fading the rear speakers in and out, but it actually sound better when the rear stock speakers where faded equally.

I told the guy I wasn't happy with the way it sounded and asked about replacing the rear speakers. He advised me to install a sub and an amp when I was ready to spend the money. I left unhappy and he could care less. I went to Best Buy and bought a pair of 2 way Aplines and installed them in the rear myself. Again, the system sounds even worse. At this point, I would be happier with my stock speakers.

I have been thinking about the JL clean sweep, but it seems many of you on here simply swapped speakers and were quite happy with the results. What am I doing wrong here???

Does anyone have a recomendations for me to try myself, or a good professional shop in the south bay area of CA?

I have no problem with Best Buy. I only purchased the rears from them and installed them myself.

I had the front speaker work done at my local stereo specific shop. They are AMS Car Stereo. This guy knows I am unhappy and couldn't give 2 shits unless I want to spend more money at his shop!

2 fosgate 10 - P3s in a box behind the rear seat and a good amp and you'll be very happy.

 

i had 2-p2 fosgates in my previous model and that rattled my cage with p3's hes gonna loose his teeth

 

Seriously you need to amp those speakers to get the full capacity out of them. most factory stereos put out about 10-15 watts average which is fine for the paper cone woofers toyota installs. aftermarket components (especially) need at least 50-80 watts to sound good. my suggestion is to have a 4 channel amp installed, which can be used with the factory radio if you want, and you will be much happier with the sound. a sub could definitely help as well just to round out the sound.

Looks like I am going full tilt on this one. I will report out when it all gets done.

 

check out this new amp from alpine. i got a one through a store on ebay for $385 shipped and couldn't be happier with it. i have always been a huge fan of alpine and have never had any bad experiences. this amp will also tuck neatly away under one of your front seats and run the entire system without puttin a huge load on your trucks electrical system.
