I have a six speed 2005 and I rarely take it above three. Do any of you get on up in the 5000-6000 (I think it red lines at 6k) range? How does the power feel?

These engines aren't meant to rev. I've gone WOT in my autobox and it politely states "please refrain from doing that again, sir."

I've had my 2.7L up to 5500 rpm and hit the rev limiter, sounded healthy. I had 1978 2wd with a 24R engine I built, it was redlined at 8000 rpm, no problem. The machine shop guy said it was safe to 8000 rpm.

I run my V6 up to 9,000 RPMs daily... it's the only way to increase it's level...

Joking aside I drive in the 1,200 to 2,000 RPM range. If I have to get onto the freeway and get in front of someone I might hit 3,000. Above that my K&N Intake is so loud you'd think the motor was about to explode.

120k+ miles and I'm a firm believer in keeping the pipes clean. I run her high as she goes every so often. I normally drive conservative, but I like to blow the dust out of her every once in a while.

At one time Ford put out a notice recommending this for their 4.0L in the Ranger.

I hate taking anything to the rev limiter. Sounds and feels like shit.

2.7L 4 speed auto and I'll get it up to 5500 in first. Id say around 4000+ you feel and increase in pull.

Same here. Usually while merging into traffic. no power in the last few hundred rmp before redline, or so it seems. Sometimes I like to drive her like a racecar tho.

This. I get it above 3.5k rpm an a regular basis just for this reason. Also, if 5.5k rpm was damaging to this V6, they wouldn't set the limit that high.

Lets just say If you broke something at high rpms then you probably needed some maintenance to begin with.

I hammer down about once every couple of weeks. Just feel like it. Other than that I drive pretty normal. It's not going to mess anything up unless you already had problems. You get the most hp around 5200rpm. If it was going to break then it wouldn't be set for that. I wouldn't hold it there the whole trip just to stay in the power band, but it's not going to hurt it every so often to pass people or get on the freeway quickly.

No idea how high it went. I passed out when it hit the rev limiter, and woke up naked.

I've taken my truck to the rev limit several times, and I've noticed that its got a "soft limiter" like my BMW had, it basically just holds it there until you let off. The Volvo I had before the BMW would bounce off the limiter hard, like "waaaaaaaah ZING!". The 5 cylinder sounded amazing at high RPMs.

And for the OP, the rev limit is there for a reason, you won't hurt the truck to go up to it. I've heard that the 1GR will do 6500-6800 RPMs without issue, it just doesn't make any more power over 5500 or so so there's not much point in revving it higher than that. Maybe with some cams and a valve job though...

agreed. It's funny how different rev limiters act differently. I can hold the gas down on this one and it just keeps bouncing. I've hit it in some cars and it literally almost throws you out the window as if it hits the brakes to stop it.
