Did you really watch the replay closely. They should have called him for more that the helmet thing.

I could be wrong, but I THINK if the ball is blocked and never goes beyond the line of scrimmage, it's still a live ball, but if it is blocked and goes beyond the line of scrimmage, it'd a dead ball. Just like if a pass is knocked down it's a dead ball.

Like I said, I could be wrong, so don't quote me on that.

Yeah. Either way, it doesn't matter much now. It's not like it was a call that affected play on the field. If anything, it was a make-up call for the TERRIBLE no call on the pass interference in the end zone w/ Julio at the end of the second quarter. I don't understand how they didn't make that call.

Refs did that yesterday during the USC game where mays litterally took the receivers Helmet off when mays closedline him in the Inzone. On the kickoff after the touchdown they threw the flag over nothing and gave oregan a rekick on the 45!!

Wish they would get it right the first time. Hell I wouldn't even mind if they threw it late if it was a legit call!

OK... not that anybody is arguing, but I heard this on the radio today.

Excessive celebration penalties are dead ball fouls. They are assessed after the play is over. At the end of the first half, the penalty is assessed on the first play of the next half. At the end of the game, however, there is no penalty assessed. The clock ran to triple zeros (before the helmet was removed, as I stated above) on the play, so there was no next play.

EVEN IF they'd thrown the flag and we'd had to run another play, Alabama recovered the ball (which may or may not have crossed the line of scrimage, I couldn't tell on the replay) so we would have had possession and would have just knelt down.

Anybody who tries to use the helmet removal as a point of controversy (Lane Kiffin) is just wrong. Even if called, it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game.

    EDIT:
I found this quote to support my position...

    Anyway.... ROLL TIDE!

Auburn's going with a "Navy Nightmare" on Saturday against Ole Miss. Just another case of a team trying to win a game with a gimmick. So stupid.. but when you lose 3 in a row (one to Kentucky), I guess you'll try anything.

(For the record, the "All Auburn, All Orange" theme is something I actually like. It's not a one-game gimmick. It's a thing they've been trying to promote for a while as a general rule... fill the stadium with orange. I'm OK w/ that.)

Yeah... A school trying to get it's fan base to use one color or another as a general rule is cool. We've never really tried it. Probably because Crimson is the more identifiable color, and if everybody wore it in the stands it'd just be kinda dark. Everybody wearing Orange is bright and intimidating.

I just hate the one-game gimmicks. Especially when the coach tries to use it to get his players up for the game. If that's what you need to get up for a game, that's too bad.

Also... I can't believe #3 didn't get there, and look how freaking high Julio (8) was... I bet he would have blocked if Terrence (62) hadn't made it.
