    Morning all:
Hope all comes out for the best for your parents Dave. Sounds like a tough choice, but one that has to be made eventually.

    Pup's looking good Mark!

A friend of mine just bought the place across the street from where he lives, older house in good condition W/ 5a. and a pole barn for $123k, was listed for $180k before going up for auction, he's going to rent the house and use the pole barn. His son, the young guy I fish with, is in the process of buying another piece of property adjacent to it, with a home and 9.8a.
It's definitely a buyers market right now!

Been awful quiet in here lately. Is everybody on vacation or sumtin?

It's not been a great couple of weeks for me. Two Saturdays in a row had to cancel golf for funerals. Guess that's part of getting old...BUT, coming home to lie around with my new AC on has been great. I just don't want to see the electricity bill. Getting a photovoltaic system installed soon, so my monthly bill will be less than $20.

:pccoffee:  Hi sixtys, wannabes and Susan.

Hey cheech! How's it hangin' man. Sorry to hear about the funerals. No need for AC here, the weather has been spectacular - perfect summer days, cool nights. By "photovoltaic" do you mean solar? I'd love to do that at my house but we're in the woods and I'm not sure whether it would pay to do it. $20 electric bill does sound sweet though.

It's Friday which means I've started my 'weekend'. I'm fighting the urge to do work stuff anyway. Weird.

Nothing major or fancy. Just stuff to make it work better for me. Running boards, seat covers, BakFlip
Good morning everybody. I'm playing catch-up on this thread and doing doctor stuff today. The doctor stuff isn't anything major, just got a little too much smoke. I've been running dozer on fires for the last month or so and there doesn't appear to be any end in site.
I'm on the Jerusalem Fire for the time being and probably will be for awhile. I'll be back down there tomorrow morning So much for retirement...but it's hard to say no when things are as bad as they are right now.

Here's a good reference for what things are like out here...

If anybody knows a good rain dance, now would be the time. And a few prayers for the guys on the line wouldn't hurt either.

My electricity bill should actually be around $17, and yes it is a solar system. Costing me around $13k. Payback in about 5 years.

:woot: Congratulations! I hear it takes next to no time to get used to it.

I haven't cut my grass in two weeks. :anonymous: Not as bad as it sounds though; the combination of hot weather and little rain has kept the growth pretty slow. I need to do it today or tomorrow though.

I did go around with the weed whacker on Friday. Wore myself out trying to get the bloody thing to start! Stihls are notorious for being hard starters. I ran it out of gas and after I refilled it I simply could not get it to start again. Tried for 15 minutes, nearly pulled my arm out of the socket, finally gave up. After a break I got to thinking "I'm mechanical, this thing is not complicated, there has to be something very basic wrong." So I started to tinker. Spark plug was bone dry. Air cleaner was not clogged - but it is made of heavy, dense wool felt material - what happens if I leave it out? Vroom! The motor started on the first pull. So I cleaned the filter, dried it, put it back in. No start. Took it back out. Vroom. Okay. I cut a piece of foam rubber to the right shape, soaked it with some oil, and stuck it in in place of the felt. Vroom. Starts every time. Easy as pie. Why would they put an air filter in that chokes the motor so severely? o_O:der:

My last weedwacker was a bear to start. Almost hurt myself everytime I tried to start it.

The first thing I do when I get a new unit is drill the carb plugs out. They set things so lean I'm suprised they even run. I haven't done the JD yet as it seems to be rich enough at this time.
The 2 weed wackers I have had to have this done. They would not run off choke. The used mower I got the owner stopped using it and it sat for 7 years as it would not run. Not having the ability to set carbs make them dangerous while operating.

I wonder if they tune them so lean to pass EPA regs. Sort of like Toyota does with the v6 Tacos...

The Stihl one might be running lean too, but it seemed as though the real problem wasn't too much air relative to the fuel but simply not enough air at all. I just ran it for about 20 minutes and it did fine under load, so I'm going to leave it as is and declare success.

Yea that's they do. Lean and hot. Burned Pistons. With our 10% ethanol makes it even worse as the carbs get sick on this stuff. Throwaway engines.
