I will say that I ordered my truck and waited 5 months for it, and I picked everything I wanted and needed when I did so. Some say it's slow as hell and the worst configuration that ever existed, some say I obviously couldn't afford something better..

Fewer people, by far, have driven one to be able to form such an opinion. They aren't wrong, it isn't fast! But, to me THE Tacoma is 4 cylinders, 4 doors, short bed, and lifted. I fell in love with the first gen DCSB and when it came to buying a truck I could drive for the next 10 years it was all I looked at, and has since been everything I hoped for.

My stock mileage was fantastic. 22-24 MPG average and long trips to Tahoe were 28 MPG highway. I loved it. Lift and tires (and a 225 lb camper shell) have dropped me to 18-19 with occasional attempts at 20 MPG average.

It has been a fun vehicle and obviously is a bit of a toy, and I fully intend to drive it until it falls apart. By then, I may want a 4x4 again (this is my first non 4x4 truck) and I'll be forced into the V6, and then I would upgrade to the long bed). Or maybe I'll consider a conversion.

Gotta go "off topic" for a moment.....

Sorta reminded me of something that happened years back......I was into racing dirt bikes then. Me and a couple buddies drove to a National Hare Scrambles in Texas. We were piled up in a motel room together. One of my buddies went to the motel bar, found a "lady" who agreed to come back to the room. The other two of us pretended to be asleep. They got in their bed, and in a few minutes we hear her say "Who you gonna please with THAT little thing?"....to which my buddy replied without skipping a beat....."ME I hope!"

Then I fell out of my bed and on to the floor laughing.

"Tiny" as we called him from that day on, never went with us on another road trip.

One of our Baja Crew has a 2.7 Auto Standard Cab and he runs about a 2" lift and if I remember right, 32-33" tires. Does fine on what we do, seems to keep up on most of the drive to San Diego (except parts of the Grape Vine) and does well in all the OR Baja Stuff. No serious rock crawling stuff, but plenty of slow tight trails and fast dirt roads. Set up as more of an Overland type rig. He is more than happy with it. I can check for actual tire size he runs if you want. He has had this setup for quite a few years and many long Baja / Death Valley etc. trips. Also, most trips he has two in the cab and the bed is stuffed for a week+ without stores.

Hey guys just come across this thread and I can speak for the 2.7. I have an automatic 2.7 regular cab 4x4 and I'm running a 1" kit on the front with 285/75-16s Hercules Tera-tracs and it's such a fun truck. I think I measured it one day and the tires are actually 32s any bigger and I'm gonna have to run a bigger lift and change bumpers as I have some dragging in reverse. As far as the transmission the auto 4 speed does decent with the bigger tires maybe like 16-20 but then again I live in the kiamichi mountains of Oklahoma so lots of hills. I'm sure it would do better on flat highways. The ride is a little rough probably because the truck is so much lighter than an access or double cab but not horrible and anyone that has ever been through Oklahoma knows we have the worst roads ever haha.

@PeeRunner If you decide to do your conversation, let me know. I am in the mist of finishing the conversation on my 2014 2.7L DCSB Prerunner. I can give you all the info you need and tips to make it easier for you than it was for me. It really wasn't that bad. Just a bunch of small things that had I known would have made it easier.

Nope. I need to get one going though. I initially didn't start one because I figured it it would bring out the trolls who had nothing to say but to bash a 4 cyl DC 4x4.

Now that I'm getting closer to being done, I'm more confident in the project so I'll probably post it up soon.

I'm all about that 4 cylinder life but I *will* be turboing/supercharging mine down the road. It's gotta happen! I need ~250whp/tq in my lil beast. ~100whp is really feeling lethargic. I can only imagine what a 4 banger is like with a double cab. Yeesh.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm rocking a regular cab w/ 32's, 1.75 lift in front, and I have no complaints really. It's slow but it has character and I love vehicles with character!

DCSB Prerunner 2.7 auto has character.

Not as nimble as an RC, but it's a kick in its own right. :)

No name change. I'm the silent partner of Mobtown Joe A.

I am Mobtown Joe B. I know it's confusing. I'm the brains behind the scenes. Joe A. has the brawn and stunning good looks.
