I noticed a clank noise when I pressed on the brake.

Yup, 36 is what you want to look at. Mine were just barely off being torqued correctly but it was enough to make a nasty clunk noise every time I stopped.

Good to know, as I've been hearing this same noise the last few weeks and it's been driving me nuts. Speaking of brake noises, what about noises emanating from the pedal? I've also been hearing what sounds like a spring frequently when depressing/releasing the brake pedal. It's been making this noise practically since I purchased it new back in 2011.

Probably NOT what you're experiencing, but, yesterday on my way home from work, I hear this loud bang coming from the bed of my truck. Every time I sped up, slowed down, changed lanes, or did ANYTHING other than maintain a constant speed, I get this rumble and bang sound. First opportunity to pull over and check it out, I find one of the young Einsteins I work with has put a flippin' BOWLING BALL in the bed of my truck.

So....On HIS way home today, he will no doubt pull over to investigate a chattering sound coming from UNDER his truck just to find about 50 cable ties wrapped around his drive shaft.

    It may never end....

My rear axle u-bolts were loose causing a clunk. I looked at them and snugged them up to 80 ft. lbs. Nothing bad has happened. I have no idea why the spec is 36 ft. lbs. but that guarantees they'll loosen up.

Careful. I did that sort of thing once with taped pennies on a driveline thinking they were smart enough to solve the puzzle. Nope, they spent a couple hundred dollars with a mechanic. Apparently he/she wasn't super bright either.

This happened to me too. Dumb ass dealer gave me TSB leaf springs and didn't torque them right and they came loose. Glad we didn't die.
