    After drilling the holes, I plan to smear some clear silicon around the area before installing the rivets and screws and underneath the brackets as well.

    Wasn't accidental. How will it be better? Its an axial force regardless of which direction, and this orientation has less chance of fluid leaking past the seal IMO.

    Its not a complicated part. The force is the same no matter which way its oriented, the only reason to go one way is for durability reasons. And if that's the case I want them to say it, otherwise im leaving it like that because it should be better that way.

    For anyone that wants to know why the gas springs should be mounted correctly: There is oil inside the gas spring that lubricates the seal and shaft every time the gas spring is cycled. If you mount the gas spring upside down the oil settles at the bottom of the gas spring, the seal drys out and the gas spring fails. The oil also controls the end-of-stroke dampening that slows the gas spring down the last inch of stroke. So the orientation of the gas spring is important.
