I thought about that actually - leasing. For personal use only, it seems like leasing is not as cost effective as purchase. But for beating the piss out of a car for business purposes, seems like it could be something to at least consider. Will look into this.

Yep, having an accountant's help would be super nice. Maybe we can find one we know through someone - WAIT!! Just thought of someone. Really nice lady that used to work for Eric - her ex hubby has been one for years!! Bet he'd be willing to give us some pointers for free or at least at a discounted rate. Worth a shot anyway. Gotta get creative with ways to cover this business' start up needs with damn near zero funding. :D

not saying to use them and not saying NOT to use them, just saying look here for more info http://www.legalzoom.com/sem/busine...OFJoywBUMfqYv2R4cQwCQeXPVDc-NvKkEkaAm2n8P8HAQ

how about "Jen's gems" "Jen's heavenly treats" "buy my shit or i'lll kick your ass"

if you are serious about help with a name then you need to give us a business description and list of items your selling, the name should tell people exactly what you are selling.

It's a courier business! Not selling anything but services, which are to deliver crap from point A to point B.

    My target customers would be:

Florists who need flowers delivered to funerals, weddings, etc
Attorneys who need legal doc's, etc, picked up/dropped off - also thought about becoming a notary
Mechanics who need parts picked up/dropped off
Any business that just needs some kind of simple errand/delivery
    Elderly people's errands
Not sure about food deliveries - thinking I might need a special biz license or something to handle food
Etc etc etc - and I'm all ears if you guys have other specific ideas!!

The cinnamon rolls and coffee are just a freebie gimmick idea to help set me apart from competitors. Make giant pans of them at night, then have them and a big thermos of hot coffee in the back of my vehicle. With the way it rains and it so gloomy around here most of the year, trust me, a warm cinnamon roll and hot coffee would DEFINITELY stick in people's minds, and possible be the thing that pushes them to choose me next time over someone else, even if my price is a little higher. :D

I think the point I would push about my business is that I am a local entrepreneur, paying taxes and spending our hard earned dollars here in this community, at these people's businesses. There's a big emphasis on keeping it local around here, so I think that could actually set me apart from others. Also thought of giving a portion of proceeds to our local dog shelter, because it's something I care about and customers like to feel like their dollars are going to something good, even in a small way.

How about "the pioneer wagon" ?????? We are at the end of the Oregon Trail, so lots of businesses around here call themselves "the pioneer _____________" Thought about painting the Taco to look like an old pioneer wagon, then my slogan could be: "We'll get there faster than the settlers did!"

PS: So far, "buy my shit or I'll kick your ass" is my favorite.

Ran to Oreilly for CV split boots instead of making cookies.

Oreilly experience is not what it once was lately. Wrong parts, everything we buy looks like it was returned, not a great service attitude when you point out things like pieces missing from a kit you are buying........frustrating.

I thought about that. But it seems like a good way to get kidnapped or murdered - picking up strangers like that all the time.

Plus the idea of starting my very own business is really exciting. Eric & I have talked about starting something for years, but everything requires a ton of start up money. This is something that could work, because we need a car anyway, and I need a job anyway! Once I put my mind to something, I am a very hard worker and very determined. So I could see this turning into something great and successful someday. And that would be really cool.

It's not a super exciting or glamorous idea, and it's nothing that hasn't been done by a billion others. But sometimes just keeping it simple is enough to be successful, as long as you are doing that simple thing really, really well.

I ran to Home Hardware to pick up a few breakers for our breaker box. Sorry to hijack your thread Jen but if you want to know a never ending fixit story here is one!

So a few weeks back a bunch of divorce related, I was divorce from my ex about 3 years ago, stuff came to term and I was finally able to redo some financial things like my mortgage. Basically while she was never on it, because we were married, I couldn't touch it until she was paid out. Anyways, when I went to redo the financing on my house to a lower term and rate the bank decided to do a revaluation of my home to see if I could avoid CHMC fees. The problem is we were kind of half finished installing a bath tub and half finished painting the kitchen. We only had 3 days to get everything into ship shape for the appraisal so we could get an accurate value.

Anyways, while I am fairly handy, my new wife is not. She loves to paint and does an amazing job but in the rush she decided to just paint the knobs on the cabinets and then use CLR to clean the paint off. The problem is that the knobs are coated in antiquing finish and the CLR took some of that off too leaving the knobs looking god awful and somewhat melted. So I had to change every single piece of hardware in the kitchen to match. Usually this is easy, but the local hardware store didn't have anything with the same size holes, so I had to redrill everything to make it look right. Took me a couple of days because the damn doors wouldn't line up on the new hinges either since the cabinents were not installed by the original owners possibly!

Anyways, finally when I finish that she's painted the house. Basically she painted 1-2 walls alone, and then her mom showed up when I was at work and the blitzed the whole house with paint in under a day. Awesome right? Wrong. In order to be quick they painted the outlets and wanted me to change all of them. Ever try to change every outlet in the house in a day? Not doable safely for someone who is not a sparky in that time frame. Anyways I just painted all of the outlets white for the appraisal and pushed off fixing it till now.

Now, don't get me wrong, we needed new outlets. We had a few dead plugs and the wiring is 30 years old. Anyways last week I finally got around to changing outlets and so far so good until I hit the kitchen. Turns out it was three wired. We have a small child so I wanted to GFI it. $400 in GFI breakers I finally get the job done. Think that's easy? Turns out the reason our microwave keeps kicking out is because some dufus put the main living room, where our surround sound and other electronics are, on the same breaker as the dishwasher and microwave. So now I have to open the breaker panel AGAIN, and run a pile of really expensive copper wire to install two new breakers, one for the dishwasher and one for the surround to ensure there are enough amps for each circuit. Oh, and by code those all have to be the new expensive breakers with extra short protection .

    ARG

In short, I'm now over $1000 into a few mistakes that were made painting my house. I love my wife, but OMG this is a hell of a job and now I know why people hire electricians. This house is farmer built, and while everything exceeds the old codes, some things were done as stupidly as possible I swear.

The good news is that I got a kickass mortgage rate because I'm up over 130K on my house after only 5 years and I do good work on my own reno's :D.

    Sorry for the threadjack Jen!

BTW, a question to those who browse this thread who are handy, should I swap all of my breakers over to these new expensive ones? Normally they are about $50 but my guy can get me a box of what I need to change everything for about $100 because he owes me for fixing his computer. My panel is good, it's the Canadian division of Federal that never had the USA issues, but the most modern breakers made by the new company who makes the stuff are computer controlled and it seems like they are even safer. It would take a bunch of work to do but at this point I'm in a pound not a penny so maybe just do it?

I hear ya, brother. I absolutely hate carpentry. Unfortunately, I'm quite good at it and the Mrs. knows that. All she has to do is start throwing $ numbers at me and I will end up doing it myself. I firmly believe the Mrs secretly does this to torment me. Regardless, we do end up saving a ton of $. I may lose some of that savings because my liquor bill goes up. I dunno.

BTW, if it's any consolation, I am not actually drinking it right now. Just planning to soon - Eric is off all next week, so there will be some work done on that bottle in the near future. Right now is ice water, mmm exciting. :D

Gazebo is being manufactured as we speak and it is coming from a Company in your state(or at least one of those western states). I was told at least a 3 weeks before it makes it this way.

even tho it is called a gazebo, it is rectangular in shape. We decided to go that way for ease of decoration. We are thinking along the lines a a tiki bar as one of the styles of decoration. we have time to make up our minds. Don't worry, I have a smart phone and know how to use it. Pics with be forthcoming.

that's the beauty of uber, you see who it is before you commit to pick them up, you see the reviews from others who have already given them rides and they pay uber and uber pays you so no money changes hands and its 100% up to you to decide if you want to give them a ride.

they put up the name and profile of the person seeking a ride and from where and to where and what they want to pay for a ride, then any number of 100 people can say ok or not, its on a bulletin board and you decide if you want the job.

your not picking up random strangers, uber has there name address and identification before they get on the service plus if you don't like the reviews of others who already gave them rides or anything else then you just pass on that job. its totally up to you if you want to do one a day or one a week or one every year, you really are the one in charge.

many people only give rides to those who have used uber a dozen times or so and have a record of good reviews and this would be the way I would suggest you do it

Are you still taking suggestions for businesses?

    I got one for you?

At home pet nail trimmings. I dislike trimming my pets nails. It has to be done every 3 weeks. Every time we trim nails, I tell the wife I would pay someone $20 for 10 minutes work to do this distasteful job.

you talking about ground fault breakers?

breakers are just a resettable fuse, if yours are working leave them alone.

if it aint broke don't fix it or you'll break something messing with it.

seriously, all I would do if you don't have one is to install a surge protection breaker for the whole panel and add ground fault outlets anywhere near water such as bathroom and kitchen outlets. you only need one as long as its the first outlet that feeds power to the rest of the ones on that circuit.
