My 2015 v6 doesn't even start to pull until 3k rpm. To keep from getting run over on the freeway, I'm regularly keeping it in the 3-5.5k range. Below 3k rpm it's pretty gutless at 6k ft altitude and highway mountain passes .
Another reason I wish I could afford the SC before it's gone.

Agreed. I buy my cars, now truck, to drive them. Not stare at them in the drive way. I pay a hefty price for it, do the maintenance, repair anything that needs it. We could all say the same thing about the guys that take theirs off road and beat the hell out of them. They pay the price for their trucks and parts, they can choose what to do with it.

Haha this reminds me of my old 80 toyota pickup my throttle cable use to stick while driving  so id hold in clutch on instinct or turn key but no power steering so that sucked and rev all the way up and make a loud pop and shut down.. then get under hood take out old POS air cleaner and mess / lube up throttle and start her up and drive again... this would happen at least 2 times a week.. was terrible in traffic ><
so that being said will revving your engine blow an engine or does it just dis ignite spark plugs first as a fail safe?
But with this truck 3-5k daily is my average depending on what gear i am in or who im trying to pass.. 3rd gears fun

Redline a day keeps the carbon away.

Seriously though its good to give her a nice WOT run. My truck sees revlimiter on at least a weekly basis and she's a v6

Some raise it to 6200, when they have installed the X-1 or UCON. As it comes with cam gear, cooler t-stat, and a file for when you have no cats. Basically a full exhaust. On the N/A setup w/stock internals, that 6200 rpm limit is fine. On boosted setups, the oem rods become the weak point with the exponential stress increases from the rpm limit being raised by 700. Snapped rods a plenty. Over time it was learned and now with the UCON files all boosted apps will have a 5800 rpm limit. Unless the internals are forged.

With a full set of bolt ons, from intake through exhaust, the power will continually climb. That rpm limit can take advantage of it.

Stock valve train is rated to 6800. Miss shifting with a raised limiter and stock components can quickly surpass that and damage those components. It has happened.

The only way to go to those levels is with upgraded valve train components. Which is actually very simple. Gadget's latest dyno run with his URD S/C kit on his 4.3L stroker 1GR was around 7k.

One of the main reasons to raise the rev limiter on the Tacoma, is very simple once the 1GR starts making good torque. The engine will peg the rev limiter in 1st gear, noticeably faster than the rpm gauge will display. Proven many times over by multiple sources.

This will come off a bit conceited and that is not my intention, but you've no idea my involvement with the 1GR, do you?

I hit the rev limiter at least once a week, and on occasion the speed cut. Not since I installed my progressive snapshot though.
