Anyone worry that the sand in the back trick becomes a projectile during an accident?

I had a feeling that was coming. Yep, you're right.

Testing the conditions by stabbing the brakes once in awhile as you mentioned is a good call too. Sometimes I use the skinny pedal to do the same. If I can mash the accelerator in a higher gear and the drive tire spins, It's time to shift into 4x4.

As has been mentioned in many threads, if you think the road might be slippery, give the trac button a quick push on your way out of the driveway.

Give me a manual transmission RWD vehicle any day to get around in winter

I never drove an automatic so I am clueless but not really happy about things shifting when they want same with front well drive.

For Ice you can`t beat 4 studded snow tires .

If It snows to bad I just stay home.

Grew up driving 1960s-1970s cars in Wisconsin winters.

Mother Nature can bitch all she wants. No matter what winter she throws at me, I've handled worse and WILL win

I have friends that have driven 2WD 1st gen tacomas in the past. They primarily did this to save money early in their careers. It can be done, but once they had a solid career and money in the bank they all upgraded to 4WD.

I owned a FWD corolla once, never again. I hated being "that person" stuck spinning tires (with studs, and throttle control) and being the only one making it through a green light screwing everyone else behind me. It's not uncommon for us to get freezing rain in fall/spring.
