I took a nice GM this morning before work.

 

No one wants to just spray a little biodegradable oil in and on the frame. For some reason they want to talk testosterone inducing welding. They all have access holes. Been doing it for thirty years and frames never rust in one of the premier rust areas of the world.....mid Maine where road salt is spread so thick, the roads are spotted white when bare.

 

I do in fact use oil myself.

I have considered trying fluid film.

The repair talk, and repairs I have done were all because someone did not take care of the frame in a truck somewhere.

Its really not bad to treat the rust prone areas periodically, wash it at least once a season, and correct any issues before they cause a failure.

Not a single frame that failed in 6 years was taken care of.

Plain untreated steel on the rails of my trailer that was never painted and got drug through the snow and gravel roads outlasted 6 years. And I was to lazy to ever even paint it the first time!

 

Biodegradable oil you are quoting is dino oil with some crap in it to make fall appart quicker. Its still poisonus and if everybody did what you talking about, we would have to import drinking water from Saudi Arabia.
Never mind none of us would be able to eat fish for years.

 

You are WRONG. You need to get with the times. When you can't find G Oil in a local store which is made from organic compounds you can order it on line. It has the same lube capacity as ( and rust protection) as synthetic.

You can catch excess drippings with newspaper if you choose regular oil and you can do it safely but most around here think it's more manly to weld rusted frames then to prevent it initially. Been doing it for many years and resell my ten plus year old Toyota trucks..rust free with out frame rust concerns what so ever !,!

Food safe grease, wd40, other non petroleum products are alternatives.

Just washing cleaning and rattle canning spots before they get bad is another

Im not saying that its good for the environment but the dripping from a safely oiled frame, is less than half the GM vehicles leak on the roads.

You are a funny man...you need to study the difference between biodegradability and poisonous. Older anti freeze is completely biodegradable and becomes non toxic in short time but is poisonous to mammals when drunk prior to degrading and it is safe to dig a hole and dump. It's the lead content from the solder in the welds that causes the problem with ground water. Hang on...ai will post references for you re-education.

Well this is a total bust....Toyota is officially the new Apple. The Tacoma took the market by storm and EARNED it's way to the top. Now that they have the biggest fanbase they're simply going to shit all over you guys by selling you nearly the exact same truck as the 2005 model; just like Apple has been doing with their phones for the past few releases. You'd think that over the last decade Toyota would have learned a thing or two and set out to CONTINUE their leadership position in the segment by offering INNOVATIVE features.

GM on the other-hand, KNOWS they're playing catch up and they're out for blood; Toyota blood. They're giving the market EXACTLY what they want and have been requesting. Reliability on the GM twins truly has yet to be determined but at least they are using a proven powerplant (both the diesel and the gasser). Toyota has yet to prove their engine is reliable or even a worthy replacement of the 1GR-FE. Right now, I'm finding it hard to justify spending money on a "new" truck when it's nearly identical to my 2009.

Anyone else see my point of view?

 

Is that any different then what the rest automotive world normally does ?
Trucks and cars could be built to be rust free, more economical and last for hundreds of thousands of mles.....but turn over is profit producing. Be more upset at the drug companies that keep life saving drugs off the market until the patterns on the old more profitable drugs have their run out. At least being lied to by auto companies doesn't kill as many people as drug companies do by negligence.

 

I am not asking what other things do.
If millions of people did what you doing, millions of gallons of biodegradable oil would be washing into drinking water, I am asking if you think its safe than drink that first and I will use that to spray my truck with it.

Anyone else notice the weak payload on most models? 2wd Ext cab 4 cylinder is the only one at 1600, the most common style (4wd, crew cab 6 cylinder) is at 1150 4wd or 1370 2wd. Consider a tongue weight of 10-15% on 6400 lbs (640-960), so lets say 12% at 768 lbs, that leaves 387 lbs or additional payload. Where do you put the gear or people and be with in specs?

The base GM twins have 1590 payload and 7k towing in the 4wd V6 crew cab configurations. I plan to pick up a 21-23 ft open bow boat in a few years and want to be able to bring some people or gear too, this is playing a factor in this truck as a decision. I would prefer a mid size as I won't tow but a few times a month local in Texas which is well with in this size truck but damn...
