So the base model actually gained 300 lbs? It also says Toyota now has class leading payload at 1620 lbs? I thought someone here was ranting about the Colorado getting 2000 lbs payload.

Solid feeling brakes and lots of power stated as well. True skid plates? There are some interesting things in that article for sure.

I did get a laugh out of them saying the leaf sprung rear axle is an "old" feature. So you want coils on a truck? My Ram rides like shit. No coils for me please.

Did you write that article? Seems about the same as your view. Awesome offroad, but not that new. Seems like a broken record. It's funny to hear the reviewer say he was impressed offroad and loved the power of the new engine, but hated the "truck like" feel and finish...

I'm not flat out impressed either, but this Tacoma definitely runs with the Colorado better on paper and seems to be a slight improvement offroad. I see this truck becoming another best seller, even if it's not as revolutionary as some would like. If it's reliable, I'll be moving up to one once I wear the 2013 I have out.

Is not revolutionary is Evolutionary. We should've expected this from Toyota and to be frank I am happy with it. As long as the truck is reliable and better that the Second Gen, which in my opinion it is, it is a win win for me. I wanted to purchase the 15 and I decided to wait for the 16 to come out and I am not disappointed. Whoever was expecting 330 Hp and 300 lbs of tq and 30 mpg does not know Toyota at all.

No I didn't but it makes me smile, just because I got so much shit or arguments, but either way agree its an improvement, lots of things I like and if I were to be in the market I would buy another, ugly grille and all.

I think there is a segment here that really wants the Tacoma to move to being a full sized truck. I mean size wise a Tacoma but have the stats and power of a full size. Maybe even a Diesel and some payload ratings near the F150/Silverado/Ram club. I don't think Toyota wants to go there with the Tacoma right now.
It's very much about how you look at things. Really sitting here and thinking about it Toyota was never going to go Diesel, or try to post amazing numbers, but wanted to improve the truck to give us the same gadgets and capabilities as the competitions offering.

I'll be watching the Diesel Colorado sales closely for the next year. If it gets a good chunk of sales maybe Toyota will come up with an answer to that too.

Oh I know, Toyota is conservative, just kind of shocking after 10 years of the same and just some retooling and parts from other platforms. Either way some good changes, some bad like increased price, if they wanted to cause an epic trade in upgrade keep the price the same or only $500 more and they would have had a mass exodus, the styling is kind of dumpy or rushed, but the features are great overall on a proven platform. Here's hoping the new tranny and engine also stay as reliable.

2Gen Tacoma was a bestseller because when it came to production Colorado had much less power, 5000lb of towing and the same MPG...
I would hold on the tought that 3gen will become bestseller, because for average person I can not imagine spending much more for much less.
I would not do it. There will be some people who only go by name of Toyota, but I doubt will be many.
Jalopnik wrote exactly how it is with out offending Toyota. I think the term he wanted to use was "What a load of crap" but he would not get invited for next unveiling.

I could care less about GM Twins. It has never been a good brand to me. I have had GM Trucks and suvs and the last one I said never again. Toyota for me is the best truck brand proven to be more reliable than anything out there. True, GM Twins might have more power and whatever else you can think of but at the end of the day People buy toyota because they know it is a reliable rig not because is ugly, slow or fast. I want a truck that i can beat the hell out of it and still run like brand new . I can't say anything like that on a GM vehicle. At the end of the day is your choice your pick and being from South America, Venezuela to be exact, I rather be in a Toyota in the middle of the La Gran Sabana where there no mechanics nor Gas than any GM you can give me with 1000 hp and 10000 tq. That is the core of toyota People. RELIABILITY

Your english is absolutely terrible. To clarify, do you mean this Tacoma has much less to offer than the Colorado, or much less than the last gen Tacoma? I don't think either is true. Yes, if all you care about is keeping the 4.0 L and the lowest cost this Tacoma is a failure. Most people don't care about those things. They care about the gadgets, the functionality, and the image. Other than the Colorado Diesel, which significantly out tows the Tacoma, their isn't anything a Colorado does all that much better than the new Tacoma. Given the evenness of the competition, I don't see any reason why Tacoma sales will drop.

I don't think anyone is rushing out to buy either truck TBH. The Colorado has taken a good share of young males that wanted the truck image I'm sure. We will see how the sales pan out on both trucks.

Jalopnik is definitely disappointed with this Tacoma. Not going to argue that he wrote things to be nice while not being nice. To be honest though he seems out of touch with comments blasting the Tacoma for having a truck like ride and rear leafs. Really? That's the issues with a Tacoma? Sounds like someone wanted a Sienna :p.

All I am sayign would be nice to see 2016 Best In Class truck for something... other than amount of GoPro mounts.
We all would buy next Tacoma if it was at least on par with GM twins or even 2gen truck. What company develops new truck that s worse than previous.

According the Jalopnik it's best in class payload? HP and Torque are very close. That extra 30 HP the Chevrolet gets is all top end. Anyways, like I said, it's all in how you look at it. Short of a Diesel or V8 you were never going to buy this truck anyways BlueT.

Dual VVTI 1GR from 4 runner would suffice in engine dept. Why Toyota could not bring at least better engine?
More towing would be nice, drum brakes gone, and less flex in the frame.
I dont care about name plates. Not gonna pay fro mediocre.

I don't care about name plates either :notsure:. Sounds like my house has a little more variety as far as brands are considered than yours.

The Colorado and Tacoma tow almost the same. Any difference will be in the Diesel, which I admit is nice if it can hold together. Drum brakes, meh. Even Jalopnik said that brakes felt firm so I'm sure they've fixed most of the squishy or ABS complaints there. As for frame flex I'm not sure there. To be honest I don't think that mid sized trucks need boxed frames. Look at the weight of the Colorado. Fully boxed it weighs as much as an F150. Too much weight.

The brochure says the the 3rd gen has the same suspension as the 2nd gen. That's nice because I can re-use my suspension.:bananadance:
