    I love the V8 in my wife's 4Runner.

I don't love the 15mpg's she is getting with that V8.

We both tow, wheel, etc and nothing has benefited her with having a V8 other than dusting my trucks ass in a drag race and getting less MPG's. I'm sure there are loads of people who could use the V8 but I don't think its really needed in a mid-size truck.

I dont think a Tacoma will ever have a V8 option as it would totally cannibalize the Tundra market.

I think its odd they took the V8 out of the 4runner too, Not like people were that crazy over the Sequoia anyways..

id say more than 90% of truck owners buy one for a cool factor VS trucks capabilities anyways.

I agree. I've seen a lot of Raptors around town and barley any of them ever see dirt. A guy a few houses down from me has one and I was talking to him asking where he wheels. He doesn't at all. I said why buy a Raptor? He said "Look at it, it pulls bitches?"

V8 sounds soooo, sooooo nice. I've been getting up to 19mpg highway, low of 13mpg pure city stop and go. Ranging from 9-12mpg towing 3500lbs, two passengers, dog, tools, gear, food, water, gas cans, generator, two extra LP tanks. Pretty much the same as the 2012 V6 except the Tundra weighs 500 lbs more curb weight. Torque matters.

After using the most inefficient methods to search this forum i have noticed one very disturbing fact that people tend to do when someone mentions a v8 tacoma. They reference a 15 year old motor, two other brands (one was only 2wd street option btw) or say they would rather have a diesel option.
I have done a lot of research on this v8 option and have to believe that a 4.6 v8 would be a superb motor tuned with a new 6 speed auto.
With this being said I am obtaining everything I need to do this swap for July next year to my 2015 trail team dclb tacoma.

Here are some cool facts that a lot of people don't know.

    1. The 4.6 is also offered in the lexus lineup in both ls and gs 460 forms as well as in their suv (yes I know lexus is made by toyota so don't go there). The Lexus gs460 produces an astonishing 347 hp (259 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 46.9 kg·m (460 N·m; 339 lb·ft) at 4,100 rpm. In the same car they offered an upgraded motor option which was the far version. The engine includes D4-S direct injection and dual VVT-iE producing 385 hp (287 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 51 kg·m (500 N·m; 369 lb·ft) at 4,100 rpm. I pulled that info directly from wiki. Credit goes to them.
    2. In the tundra the 4.6 is mated to an a760f 6 speed automatic.
If you do your research you will find that the only difference between the Tacomas a750f and the tundra a760f is an additional clutch pack giving one more overdrive gear. My goal is to mate the tundra drive train directly into the Tacoma.
    3. Emission systems kill mpg. The more efficient the motor is at dealing with the load the better it will be at mpg. I combined these two comments because if you constantly haul 1000-2000 lbs around. The 4.6 tundra motor WILL get better mpgs then then 4.0 based on the plain fact that it won't have to try as hard.
    4. Most controlled turbo or supercharged motors will get better mpg then their na counterparts because of statement 3. Honestly they could re-cam the 1jz vvti for torque and have a phenomenal motor. Inline 6 motors are still king (see any semi on the road for confirmation.

I can't wait to see what people say about this comment

I posted in the diesel thread too, YES! It could at least be offered along with the diesel. Not sure why people don't like having options...

Lineup should be: 2.4L L4 diesel, 2.7L L4 gas, 3.5L V6 gas, 4.6L V8 gas (a la Tundra). Take your pick but don't limit others choices because you want the current 4 or 6.
