Sorry to say that the FB Toyota Tacoma Enthusiasts have 'em beat 7 ways to Sunday, on the trust-fund/mental-deficiency scale.

    You want Plasti-dip with that?

Not a lot of 2wd trucks where i live people just dont buy them.Resale value would not be good as a result.Just 1 factor to consider when looking to purchase a new truck.

I took that it into consideration - here in Ontario the 2wd's are used for service/fleet vehicles, generally. Didn't matter to me in the end, as i take my vehicles from cradle to grave.

Genuinely curious...how do you get away with 2WD in Ontario? Do you use certain snow tires? Or do you have another car with AWD or a truck with 4WD that you use? Maybe I missed it in the thread.

The portion of Southern Ontario that i live in, really does not see much in the way of snow-accumulation. A big lake-effect storm might bring things to a stand-still for a day, tops, before snow-removal equipment cleans things up PDQ. We might see 3-4 'big storms' a winter. Half of those snow-days, i have never had a problem with getting around to do my business, with some caution involved with 2wd. I've never had the real need (and attendant expense) for 4wd. If i was into snowmobiling or similar, it might make sense .. but winter for me is recreational hibernation time. Those days when a storm hits, and i just can't get to work, well that is what use of a 'sick' or 'snow-day' is for. I'm only just getting snow-tires on my stock rims this year... been driving without them fine, for the past 29 years..

I'm more afraid of other drivers who freak out, the moment when two snowflakes hit the ground simultaneously .. 4wd ain't gonna help with that.

The day after I got my PreRunner, we had the snow and ice in my profile picture. But that will only happen twice a year here, and everything is closed anyway. The guy down the block with the 4*4 F-150 also stayed in and binge watched House of Cards that weekend. I admit seeing all these off road adventure photos on TW has piqued my interest. But the truth is, mine will never see worse than a gravel road. It's for taking the kids camping, and collecting free crap I find on craigslist and bulk trash day.

I've gotten into work on snow-days, and taken the absentee phone-calls of coworkers who DO have 4wd, and live much closer to work than i .. the only thing that sucks about it, is the big-dig that is sometimes needed to get out of the work parking-lot at the end of my day, if the contracted snow-plow hasn't done so already.

My 2wd is a commuter vehicle, first and foremost. On weekends, it might take an ATV to a riding spot, or haul another motorcycle project home in the bed .. The initial cost savings associated with not being a 4wd, is now being directed to commuter hardening my Tacoma, due to aforementioned piss-poor general driving skills in my region. It's all about Priorities, and where to direct limited cash funds at those priorities. 4wd wasn't one of them.

Hell.... around here all we get is ice. Very rarely does it snow. I don't take my truck out unless I absolutely have too. Even though my truck is a 4x4 it is no better on ice. If I do have to get out I've got chains. I can't count the number of times I've seen 4x4's in the ditch because they think they can go anywhere. Everyone is on the same playing field when it comes to stopping on ice.

So true. 95% of my commute is on highways from home to work and back. Without fail, if there has been an ice-advisory, it's the seemingly invincible 4x4 Soccer-Mom SUV's flying up the fast lane while everyone is taking there time... and it's very amusing in a smug way to see a few of them nose-down in a ditch off the highway, 5 km or so on down the road .. 4x4 really ain't helping you down there, Honey.

When I live in Upstate NY and New Hampshire... (still say NH with the almost Boston twang but not totally) LOL 4x4's ruled the snow. When I lived in Dallas. Ice was mostly what we got or my all time favorite ice under what you thought was snow. 4X4 useless.... now that I live in Florida and don't really off-road more than the beach and a few fire roads for MTB could care less about a 4X4... waste of money is a pretty generic question IMO.... I personally think a pool is a waste of money since I live by the beach :)
