That's cold guys!! I had a feeling that would be the reaction though, :crapstorm:so at least I'm not surprised. I've always hated the look of the regular Prius, but I like the look of these Prius C's. Kinda looks like a WRX, minus the AWD but plus some serious MPG savings.

C'mon, ya gotta admit it's not a bad looking car. And you'd barely ever buy fuel!! It's just silly how far that thing can go on a tank of gas. And it IS a Toyota, right?

Besides, don't you guys think that eventually we'll all be driving hybrids or electrics? Isn't it kinda inevitable, or no?

    NO !!!!!!

better look into cost of parts and if "you" can fix it or if you need a computer and dealership to fix every little thing that goes wrong. good luck finding an online forum to help you fix issues too.

Did the Techron, hard driving thing. Oil was pretty dark. Passed smog today with lower numbers than two years ago.

I'd drive a Prius. And I like raccoons, just not in my house, eating my cat food, in the middle of the night. I guess that puts me right in the middle of this brew-ha-ha.

I just threw up in my mouth. Anyone have a mint?

Kidding aside, I have no issue with the Prius, I have issue with the smarmy look from the drivers. The bastard always have to rub it in at the gas station. Last one told me it was 3 weeks since he filled up. Like I give 2 shits.

I could maybe be the exception that proves the rule. That's if I drove one.

A buddy and I rented one in Vegas a few years ago, and drove it into the Maze district of Canyonlands. Careful spotting (through the rough bits) and full throttle (in the sand) got us a surprising way out there, to the trailhead we wanted.

@bldegle2 , the inner boot was torn also and he said it looked bad in there. Actually he said something much more mechanically intelligent than that, but I don't remember what exactly. :D He did say that CV shaft holds the wheel on the car, so I'm trusting his judgement call on it. $60 for the reman'd half shaft passenger side, and the driver's side didn't look too bad, so we left it be, even the slightly torn boot for now. He got it done and I am glad!

@keakar , he was going to do the duct tape bellow boot idea, but it wasn't working very well so he used rubber cement instead. Not kidding. Elmer's rubber cement that I had stashed in my office drawer for crafts. When he asked me for it, it didn't even register for me to ask, "Why do you want that while you are working on the car?" How's that for long term quality repairs, TW? :D Whatevs. That's something I really do like about that car. We always want everything to be so perfect/top quality parts when it comes to the truck, but with the Civ, there's a fair amount of "whatever, good enough" and that is a relief sometimes!

@Mod , nice to see ya back! Those fires are insane. It's interesting to hear an inside report on what it's like over there. It's hard to imagine it, from just hearing about it on the news. So much for planning to go over to eastern Oregon this week, or Eric's week off in September for that matter! I swear, this has gotta be the hottest summer we've ever had here.
@koditten , glad you like the Prius C idea!! Errr, let me rephrase that - that it didn't ACTUALLY make you :puke:

@mrfish27 , glad to hear your positive review of the Prius!! We are definitely going to at least test drive one soon. I have to disrespectfully agree with you about coons. They are just plain gross IMO. I can't see any positive anything they contribute to the world. But, they are a fact of life, at least around here. :(

@Old School , you REALLY outta here over a silly little Prius possibility? C'mon, there's really no reason to be concerned. Think about it, for the amount of times I've said I'm CONSIDERING something, how many times have I actually followed through? If I always followed through, we'd live in Boise right now and be driving that 4Runner. Oh yeah, and I'd have a mobile bakery, and also a courier business.

I have the coolest idea for my next wood burning project. Can't tell you guys what it is yet, it's a surprise. :D Made some really cool stuff yesterday, and today too. Will share pics soon (still stalling on the smartphones - shocker, right? ;)).

Just made an icy cold vodka, OJ, pineapple, pelligrino, and strawberry lemonade concoction. :proposetoast: Delish. Attempting to make chicken gyros for dinner. We'll see how these turn out, as we are missing like half the spices, yet we are NOT driving to store now :drunk: (see above).

What's everybody's favorite drink? I know what Koditten and Hetkind's are. For Keakar, I'm gonna say Moonshine!! :drunk:

    What about everybody else? :proposetoast:

It probably looked bad because of the intermixing of grease and water, clean it up, add grease, split boot application and move on...about the only way other than the noise /clunk factor, is to take the whole axle out and check manually for smooth operation....BTW, how did he get the full torque on the axle nut?

Ya know as long as you drive a Prius over 30 mph or whenever the gas engine kicks in they don't get super mileage! There are lots of other strictly gas and diesel cars that get way more mpg(over 40) than a Prius! Do you know how toxic and bad for the environment it's is to make and dispose of those batteries!?!? The perceived minimal carbon output is totally negated by the manufacturing and disposal. You think corporate Toyota gives a flying fuck about the environment??? Its all about the $$$ nothing more nothing less... You cant work om em and when the batteries go out they are a fortune. The prius is marketed towards environmentalists (for the most part) all they want you to see is "great city driving mileage and low carbon emissions" but they fail to tell you a cheap high mpg car is cheaper to build and dispose of and gets better mpg! Or thers the nice turbo diesel cars yet more spendy still better mpg than a prius plus plenty of power!! Prius has no power. Something to think about.

We aren't environmentalists. We are considering this car because it's a way to afford the features we want - cute hatchback with fuel savings and 0% interest if purchased new, and it's even a Toyota. We've never even CONSIDERED a hybrid before because of concerns about working on them, specifically with that battery. And we still have those same concerns, so there's a good chance we will not wind up getting one of these. But for Toyotas, unfortunately the only choices for hatchbacks are Prius & Yaris. We want to like the Yaris, and we don't completely hate it. But damn, it sure looks small. Might test drive one, just to see if we are pleasantly surprised, but I doubt we'll even make it that far. Just too darn small.

The Honda Fit looks too small also. And it's ugly. I really WANT to like this car also. But I don't.

The Subaru Impreza hatchback - that is currently our top pick, and might be test driven today even. AWD, average of 30mpg, super cute looking, nice size........they are at the top end of our price range though, so it will have to really wow us in every way. And Eric read that they are kind of wimpy to drive engine/power wise, but I don't see that being a deal breaker for what we will need this car to do - really, how wimpy can a Subaru be? Although with AWD, it would be nice to have the option to take it up Mt Hood, and if it's really super wimpy, it could make for an interesting ride climbing that hill! We'll see.

Also like the look of (gulp, never thought I'd say this!) some Hyundais. I've seen at least 2 styles of hatchbacks that are cute - one was an Elantra and one was an Accent. And they are definitely at the bottom end of the price range, so that's always a big plus. Every dime saved from car payment is spent on fun stuff like adventures in the Taco and more J & B :D

PS: Also liked the look of a Ford hatchback I saw, not sure which one though. But not sure if I could convince Eric (and maybe even myself!) to try a Ford....

OK, everybody against the Prius can relax. Just decided it's off the list of possibles. Eric explained more to me about the battery (after I mentioned @bry838 's comments) and I don't like the sound of all those bazillions of batteries having to go somewheres when they crap out. Where are they going? The ocean? Hmmmm.....I guess maybe I am a little bit of an environmentalist, just a smidge......;) Really, that is kinda deceptive though......

    It's always something.

Dishwasher decided to die on us today. At least Eric is off work, so the timing is good. Switching gears from car shopping to dishwasher shopping. Headed out to pick one up, and get some lunch on the way. Had hoped to test drive an Impreza today, but looks like it will be dishwasher install instead.

Didn't mean to direct the enviro thing at you guys, more meant it to be just a marketing strategy yota does to gain a different customer base. Ya know, "buy a Prius, save the planet!!........then toss your 1500lbs of batteries in the ocean" And no true enviro would ever want a raccoon dead, so I know you aren't, at least not fully.....

My GF has had a couple of Subaru's over the last few years, they certainly aren't a power house unless you get the nicer/spendy sporty cars like the WRX or impreza...especially the ones with the turbo sti motors. Usually good cars but mostly they just have little four bangers in em then accompanied with AWD that kinda sucks a lil power. I'm not saying don't consider em, they just aren't fast usually.
