    I don't know any threads off hand but some of the main things I can think off off the top of my head are wheel bearings, saggy or broken rear springs, vibrations at speed from bad needle bearings in the front diff, and an 08 is old enough to worry about frame rot around the areas by the cats.

    His best bet would be to spend some time wading around some of the forum. It all depends on what he's got an eye on. Once he's picked a truck or two we can let him know what to look for.

    I would say stick to the 05-08 to get away from the electronic BS. check for frame rust by the boxed portion up front near the cats, and check to see that the 4wd works and if the locker works if it's a trd off-road model. If he's thinking of modding it id say stick to an sr5 and save the money on the useless trd doo dads to save for real mods.

    Well the traction control to me is very over reactive on these trucks I do like the atrac but my abs light came on about 3 years ago and it was a blessing in disguise. No more squirrelly road manners in the winter and when I get stuck I just engage the old lockers to help me out. Burning out in 2wd with open diffs is another side benefit lol

    The "yellow wire mod" did actually help me a couple times with my base model. No doubt a locker would have been infinitely more predictable and usable but FWIW the electronic lsd kinda worked.... Until fj case :oops:

    Craigslist is your friend..... You'll have to either paint one to color match it, deal with the wrong color, be very patient, or be willing to drive for one. You could also buy new but they are very expensive.
