Help! annoying rattle 2009 taco

I've had an annoying rattle in the passenger side dashboard/glove compartment since purchasing my taco last november, I've been too lazy to take it on to the dealer to complain about it, I'd rather fix it myself, it only occurs when I lightly press the gas, has anyone else had this same problem?? its really annoying!!!!!!!

 

I have it too, can't seem to locate it. It has gone away, but i am sure it will return. No idea what it is?

Very common problem with tacomas. I need to fix mine still too.

 

I heard it is a wire harness behind there.

 

I took mine in, got it fix at the dealership, no hassle.. and free..

 

I dealt with this issue in my tacoma about a month ago.

Is it a rattle or more like a vibration in the low-mid rpm?

 

I have it too, but more of a 'buzzing' 'vibration' kinda sound from behind the glove box. So annoying man

 

yep it's the buzzing vibration noise at low rpms, really freakin annoying, i guess i have no choice but to go to the dealership...

it seems like its worse when its low humidity and cold out, wierd

 

I have the same one and have had it since last Novenber when i bought the truck. As one of the above posters mentioned, seems more like a colder weather thing.

I kind of feel like the chick who takes her care in and tells the mechanic its 'making this noise' because it won't make the noise when i bring it in.

These kind of posts are what annoys me more due to this fix should be in the dealers computer system due to the degree of past occurances. 'Oh, the buzz behind the dash, we can fix that... ' Seems like their networking on this type of thing is lacking.

 

exactly! I dread going into the dealership and trying to describe a vibe somewhere in the dash and have it not occur for them, I took my truck there complaining of the transmission not knowing of the lag problem, and the service reps looked at me like I had 2 heads

 

Maybe you should do what i think i am going to do and print this thread out and bring it in to them.

#1 - It shows them this is a problem that is common.
#2 - It might give them the initiatve to contact other dealers to find out what another did to address it.

Maybe TRDSPORT could find out what they did to address it and share that with us so that we can share that with our dealers, or at least give us the name of his dealer to pass along to ours to contact and exchange info on it so we can get it taken care of.

 

I got it too drives me crazy I drive with the glove box open that helps a bit but not all ways have to bring it in at the same time I'll complain again about the transmission that bugs me the most.

 

A friend of my dad's is a pretty experience mechanic, he says there's a way to disable the auto down shift when braking.. I might have to follow up with him on this

 

This is an on going problem that has been discussed in other forums. The problem is with the wires behind the glove box. I have had my truck out many of times to the dealership to get it looked at, but still can't seem to get it fixed. It seems like to me that the wires have to be secured so tightly that the wires don't have any type of give to even buzz or move. It is just a flaw with the truck because there should be no reason why we are hearing a buzzing noise witha new truck.

 

is it easy to access behind there? or should i take it in, i have a bunch of plastic zip ties i could slap on em myself

 

well i have taken it out to the dealership that I bought it from many of times and they said they couldn't heart it and said a bunch of crap. Then i just got to the point of thitnking they are not goin to do anything. So I tried to zip tie and could never fully eliminate the sound. However, I did take the truck on another issue i was having with the turning of the steering wheel and hearing a noise and got it fixed at another dealership. So I am going to take it back out next chance I have to this delarship to see if they will fix it. I believe sometimes dealerships will not deal with noises that much. All they know how to do is put oil filters in and they BARELY know how to do that.

 

The lame explanation i was given last time i went in was that the problem had been addressed after 08' and with the 09's onward due to them having added "foam" in the area where the buzzing was occurring.

Obviously, we are evidence that either that is BS or that whatever they did was not effective.

While i agree and am handy myself, i don't want to risk snapping a plastic clip or something and having it be my problem when it should be theirs, especially when the problem is obviously well documented and they shouldn't need to actually hear the noise to know how to repair it, had they established any kind of communication between dealerships.

You would think they would establish a forum between them over time where they punch in 'dash buzz - 05's-10's' and up pops the counter measure from other dealers who have successfully addressed the issue, especially when it is an issue that has obviously affected more than a few customers.
