Unless it comes with automatically self deploying recovery equipment, there is no push a button and "get unstuck" for any and all situations.

I would agree. I just herd that when stuck and can't move that you can push a button, and it will slowly rotate wheels forward and then backward to get you out. If even true. I would think it would depend on how bad your stuck and type of soil. Just wondering if anyone else had herd of this ?

It also is able to send power independently to each wheel to slowly pull the sand back under the wheel. No amount of manual throttle control is going to do that. While it may not be new, it's still pretty cool and a great feature for many people.

Is there a video of someone using the A-TRAC system like this? My understanding was that A-TRAC was a 4 wheel auto LSD. It seems to be a little more crude in the implemantation than the crawl mode?

I've got it on my 2010 Trail 4Runner, it has the Crawl Control as well as Terrain Select. I've used the crawl control maybe twice and in one instance I used it to get by a 3rd Gen 4Runner that was locked front and rear. It's a nice system to have when you need it since its more precise with the brake and trottle engagement, you spend less time spinning your wheels and making a existing problem worse

I don't know. I've only seen one video on Crawl Mode where a truck literally raised itself up out of a hole. I've never seen a video of a truck with ATRAC do that. Maybe it can't. I've seen plenty of ppl get unstuck, but never like that video. The truck it moving straight up out of the hole, not backwards and rocking out of it. I thought it was pretty cool.

I've been doing some reading on this system. It was first introduced by Toyota on the '08 Land Cruiser. From what I can tell, it is different from A-TRAC in that A-TRAC can't only regulate power left and right. So one front wheel and one back wheel each received 50% of the power and the ECU chooses whether it's the left or the right tire. Crawl Control can control each tire individually potentially sending all the power to one wheel and none to the others. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that is the difference. I'm pretty sure also that the Trail Edition 4 runners have a different transfer case with a center differential for this purpose.

No matter how the apples are laid out. One front and one rear wheel must always spin if in 4wd. Like said it just regulates brakes for left to right bias. It is impossible to regulate front rear with our drivetrain.

Im not gonna search for the link but somewhere in one of the craw control threads there is a video of a land cruiser stuck in sand on a flat surface that uses craw control to get unstuck. It took longer than the tacoma did but tbe guy also had his wheels turned to the side. If you find the video, turn your sound down. It has some pretty intense arabic music as a soundtrack.

I'm suggesting that the new drive train is different. It would likely have to have a center differential to regulated power front/back. Similar to what AWD cars do.
