I just talked to a coworker, and fellow Tacoma owner, who was telling me about a review he just read concerning the 2016s. Said the reviews was not favorable. Something about engine power, I dunno. I'll have to look around I suppose and read up. And I'm using tapatalk so I'm not sure if this has been brought up in the forum already. Anyway, perhaps you made the right call (as sacreligious as that may sound haha).
The only reason I came out of hiding to bring this up is that I was/had been considering getting a 2016. I'm not so sure now.

The reviews I've seen, and I think I've read 4 now, all praise this trucks power. It is important to note though that there was no tow testing, so that kind of throws a wrench in the comparison.

Ah. Ok. Yeah, I'll have to read more.

I was also discussing with the same coworker the Chevy Colorado which I think are very nice, but it's not a Tacoma. :)

Jalopnik (one of the most critical reviews of the new Taco) said this about towing:

Want to drive up Davis Dam at 40 miles per hour with your air conditioning on in 100 degree weather? Well, you can now do so while towing 6,800 lbs and hauling 1,620 lbs. That’s a 300 lb and 200 lb improvement, respectively. Once again, these numbers aren’t revolutionary and only the payload figure is class-leading.

Jalopnik is just stating the tow ratings. They aren't saying they towed with the truck and it was awesome/shitty.

EcoBoost is nice. Just remember for that extra money saved in gas mileage, that turbo will eventually need to be rebuilt. Most turbos usually have an 80k-100k mile lifespan.

This is pretty poor writing on Jalopnik's part, and will only reinforce the thought that payload and towing are independent. Towing a 6,800 lb trailer with 300 lbs in driver/passenger will only allow someone about 600 lbs payload, give or take. An improvement for sure, but not nearly as good as the article states.

If only you knew what you were talking about. Actually Kelly Blue book put it at 27k+. Check it out and punch in the #'s for yourself if you want for PP sale in 92646 area. My truck has 46kmi on it. I've had dealers offer me 24K Bud.

I have been getting similar quotes from dealers on my 2012 with 41K in mailers they send asking for my truck. However, I think the issue you have with that quote you have there is that its a value for a Tacoma in "Very Good Condition." While its very likely your Tacoma is in very good condition, I have never seen a dealer use that as their KBB reference value. The highest they go is "Good," but must often use "Fair."

I sell my vehicles myself. I've never traded in a car. I see them listed with more mi for more than 26-27K. Trust me DC 4x4 TRD's are highly sought after here. That's why I bought new. I usually don't do that. I also had to pass about a dozen dealers to get the one I wanted and got about 4k off msrp. Actually its in excellent condition and that doesn't include the extra goodies it has.

I was going to buy a 2016 Tacoma but after seeing the MPG numbers and considering the MSRP, I'm done. I'll either get a 2013 Tacoma, but I'm seriously considering a Colorado at this point. Any reason you went with the F150 over the Colorado?

I did the same thing a year ago. Had my heart set on a Tacoma after selling my old 86 Xtra cab. Toyota would not budge on the price of truck or trade-in.
On a whim I went to the local Ford store and drove off with a 2013 XLT. I've had it a year and I really like it-don't LOVE it. I still obsess over Tacomas, but I'm happy with my choice. I took a gamble and I'm hoping that my truck lasts as long as a Tacoma. Only time will tell.
On a side note-I've got a small lift and 33's and it goes everywhere I need it to go...Imogene, Elephant hill, Ophir...Have fun with your new truck

How about the whole story

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XkH4Ss8shE

Ford cheapened out and didn't put in the same bars on the extended cab as they did the crew cab. Ford will be putting the bars in next year. No official answer from Ford on why they did this. We can all speculate on it but it was a bad call by Ford. BTW a 2015 Tacoma would absolutely fail the same test. The 15% offset test has been challenged by manufacturers as unrealistic. How often does a vehicle hit a solid steel plate at 15% offset? When it's another vehicle at 15%, the results are totally different because the vehicles tend to peel off each other. Volvo has done some tests showing this at their private testing facility in Sweden. This article briefly mentions how Volvo has done side overlap testing but doesn't agree with the IIHS methods. http://blog.caranddriver.com/iihs-adds-new-frontal-crash-test-most-cars-expected-to-perform-poorly/ When it's a traffic barrier, the tire tends to ride over the barrier especially on trucks.

That's a moderate (nearly 50%) overlap test (first pic). Not the same test the new extended cab F150 was found to not be great in. The Ford did a 15% overlap test as talked about below (second pic). :ohsnap:

Ford aced all the tests the 2006 went through, including the ones that the Tacoma only scored moderately well. Stay in school.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Ahhh, this reminds me of the All Trac Camry version offered between 1988 and 1991, All-Trac LE. That was a sweet ride! Back then Toyota was experimenting with 4WD in many of their vehicles, presumably to compete with Subaru. I've never seen one myself....

Remember the Toyota LiteAce and TownAce 4WD minivans from the 80's. I still see those off-road camping around Arizona and California all the time. I always wanted one. And check out this fantasy vehicle, a 2015 Sienna minivan mashed up to a 2015 Toyota Tacoma. Now that's an FJ killer at least. Thanks for the memories. Cheers :)
