Routine Maintenance

    Goodyear Wrangler Dura Track Pro Tires, K&N Cold Air Intake, Pedal Commander.
    My 2006 Taco Prerunner now has 110k on the clock. I have quit taking it to the stealership for maintenance as I feel I can do most everything myself (except the trans flush). But I wondering about some routine maintenance regarding front wheel bearings. I have never repacked the front bearings yet and I was wondering when Toyota recommends this or is it even done. Maybe Toyota recommends one just replace them at a certain mileage.

    Also is there a list on Tacoma World regarding routine maintenance intervals?

    I am hoping I can get at least another 100k on 'Old Blue' before anything major occurs. 'Old Blue' has been an awesome truck.

    I think the bearings are units that you just replace. A vendor here on TW has a kit if you search for it.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't front bearings typically a "replace them when they squeal" sorta thing, and not a scheduled maintenance item?

    Usually not a squeal. Most of the time it will start to roar when turning left or right when the bearings are going out.

    Many years ago in a land far far away we used to pull and repack the front wheel bearings with grease. But alas I am old.

    I remember replacing the King Pins and bushings in the old Ford Trucks with single I beam front axle.

    Ah the "good ole days".
    I used to pack front bearings on my drivers and a camper trailer every year.
    Remember changing and gapping points, and setting timing by ear?
    Gotta say I don't missem.

    I just changed my oil about 1100 miles ago. Now when I start my truck the maintenance required light flashes about 10 times. I'm positive I reset it bc I always do. Any ideas y'all?

    Anyone remember what a "dwell meter" is?

    All of the above are familiar and I have done them many times during my youth. If a dwell meter was not available I used a hex wrench ( we called it an Allen wrench) to set the dwell by ear. Turn in until rpms dropped then out until rpms dropped and split the difference. If I remember correctly the setting for a small block Chevy was 34 degrees. Could be wrong as that was a long time ago.

    Had the little door on the Distributer cap.. Damn those were the days in my book.

    I had a 1970 Duster with the 340 wedge engine and the dual point ignition.
