It's a midsize that can tow. That really is appealing to a segment.
Well, it's a midsize truck and diesel combo so that's appealing. Midsize with towability. Unhook the trailer you can go offroading on tough trails unlike a fullsize. Still has the 8 inch max ground clearance though. Toyota can top it if they choose to do so.

I actually found those pictures on another site. Apparently it was at an UAW picnic over the weekend. I am on the fence with the new Tacoma and Canyon. I plan on buying a new truck this coming spring. We own a RX300 and Camry. Both have been trouble free. I have an older Sport Trac and it is getting time to upgrade.

I'm still very surprised GM is sticking the same transmission on the Diesel and Gas engine with the balancer added in. It'll be interesting to see if that transmission can handle the extra shifts it will take to keep that Diesel in it's smaller RPM range and the extra torque it will have to handle.

There's a bolt on supercharger that makes 400+whp on the V6 engine for the GM twins. That's a game changer. LS V8 be damned.

Not sure why all the bashing on the new Tacoma. Most first drive reviews that I have seen have loved the new truck, and have called it a significant improvement over the Gen 2, both on and off road. Out of curiosity, and because there are a few people on these forums who seem to have nothing better to do all day than bash the new Tacoma, I jumped over to the Colorado/Canyon forums to check out what their owners are saying. Didn't take long to find stuff like this:

    http://coloradofans.com/forums/114-...m/256346-2015-gmc-canyon-multiple-issues.html

    http://coloradofans.com/forums/114-...um/238065-hood-flutter-fix-not-effective.html

    http://coloradofans.com/forums/177-...9-colorado-leaking-water-interior-soaked.html

Starting to think GM has hired 3-4 nugs to troll these forums and flood the net with anti-Tacoma propaganda. Looking forward to checking out the new trucks soon. Probably order a TRD OR DCLB next year, possibly wait for the 2017, and yes, first purchase would be an aftermarket grill for the cheese grater if I get a 2016!

Ha ha. Probably true, "GM has hired 3-4 nugs to troll these forums and flood the net with anti-Tacoma propaganda".

I agree there is a general anxiousness around the new 3rd gen. But I think this is normal. For one, people have been dreaming and hoping, they way a kid does before the first trip to Disneyland. There has been tons of hype also. And in the end it's pretty much just a solid update to the 2nd gen, which in hindsight seems reasonable and let GM test out the waters on a small platform diesel, they have a bigger budget for product misses.

Anyway, I think once the truck hits the market for real and we get real MPG numbers and people start seeing it and driving it they'll love it. I know they will. It's going to be great! I can't wait (although in full disclosure I love my '07 and am planning to keep it and pass on the 3rd gen and wait for the 4th gen in 10 years) Woohoo!

You do realize that the people doing these first reviews are largely YouTube stars and bloggers flown in by Toyota to attend these junkets full expenses paid? Many times they disclose this. I don't think they would be overly negative in their reviews as they don't want the gravy train to end.

Both Toyota and GM seem to be selling all they can make. The consensus from the reviews is Gen 3 is more of an update than a new truck. We already have the EPA numbers, which provide comparison. Major gripes have been efficiency (particularly the 4cyl.); still less power and mileage than the GM twins. Toyota will do fine, plenty like the proven reliability over 1st yr reliability.

Sorry, I didn't know the numbers were out (MPG under real conditions) yet on the new engine in the 3rd gen. Guess I haven't been keeping up? Must be really recent, I checked a few weeks ago...

Not much on real conditions. EPA results were released when the embargo lifted on the multitude of reviews on Monday...tons of links here in the forum threads. Only real world notes I saw were one tester saying they were seeing better than EPA rating with closer to "25mpg" highway during their test (forget which review), and another (MOTUS) said they drove "50-70 miles plus a morning of trail time and the gas needles barely moved". (quotes paraphrased)

Believe the new Taco will be like the old ones...it will be a great truck that you can drive up to 200-300,000 miles with ease. Most of us were hoping for more, I assume it will be a very good truck...but it could be a great truck, if they actually put some effort into, instead of of giving us a yet another warmed over version.

People, including myself are little wishy washy on the GM's...I wouldn't have a problem buying a Ford however, though I really don't want a fullsize...I do believe, if Ford brought over the Ranger, they would mop the floor with the Taco. Have a moto bud in OZ that has one, he even says it smokes the coveted HiLux.

Yeah, I get it. But some of them are respected car/truck periodicals, and if they put out a bunch of bullshit too many times, they lose their credibility with the audience, and the gravy train ends another way. Just grabbed a few excerpts from the Car and Driver (not exactly a YouTube star only) review, which wasn't overly effusive in it's praise:

"The new V-6 is sweet-natured and the new automatic well-behaved, but it’s the new interior that is the new Tacoma’s clearest improvement."

"And as expected in a Toyota, everything is executed in quality materials and assembled impressively well"

"On road, the new Tacoma in any grade is quieter and easier going than previous versions."

"Off the pavement, the TRD Off-Roads are impressive."

"For a redesign that doesn’t redesign everything, the new Tacoma is a solid update."

That's just one publication/reviewer. There are others that are not just simply YouTube sensations, and they are saying the same thing. I'm not naïve enough to believe everything I read/hear, and since I'm not in the market for a new truck until next summer, I am looking forward to what the first owners will say.

Want to guess how long that truck engine lasts lol. Probably as long as the guys who stick the Mk III URD on the 2nd gen Tacoma. Not long.

Just an FYI Ford is expanding the Kentucky Plant "for future considerations". That's the F150/Transit Van plant for Ford and it's not at capacity.... Can anyone say Ranger? God I hope so. If Ford goes there they already have three winning engines for that truck. The mini powerstroke is proven in the Transit van and the 2.7 L Ecoboost is cutting it's teeth in the F150. The 3.5 L naturally aspirated is a good engine as well, but much like the new Tacoma engine it's not exciting.

Sounds like we are in the same boat. There are a considerable amount of differences between the GM twins beyond the sheet metal. I am pretty sure I will get the diesel Canyon if I do not go with the Tacoma.

On a side note. The better the GM twins and others do the better Toyota will do with the Tacoma in the future. Win,win for all consumers.
