I'm interested but am booked pretty solid for the next few weeks. I'll try to spend some snippets of time to see what I can dig up.

Regarding Bald Eagle: I basically live there. You can 2wd most of the trails unless you do something stupid.

Once on the trails how's the views? My wife and i are planning hitting the trails with a packed lunch and stop to eat when we find a spot with a nice view of the mountains. I'm not looking for anything too technical, just some trails to explore the forest.

Whereabouts are you going? I mostly play south of I80, and between SR45 and SR192

Most of the views are off of the dirt roads, not off of the trails.

Not sure exactly, this will be my 1st time there. I purchased a map of the trails as requested here so that should help. My wife and i are scoping it out for a possible camping trip this upcoming fall.

Here's a few pictures from my time in BESF. Trails included are: Negro Hollow Road, Henstep Valley Trail, an unnamed trail that goes from Sand Mountain Road to 192 by the Forest House hotel, Old Tar Road, Strong Mountain Road, and Longwell Draft Road.

Of them all, during a wet year Negro Hollow Road can be rough. The others can be done in 2wd.

What trails are closest to the campground in BESF?

Getting my rust bucket back on the road....

    The start
Found a Bed. Original was rusted out and held on by just 2 of 6 bolts.

    New shock mounts.

New cab perches and bushings from energy suspension.
    she was sitting on frame....

New brackets. Reinforced all steel up to sway bar.
wired the rust best i could and applied some red oxide primer and rustoleum.

Lines match up much better and she rides nice....

Now I have to deal with up front crack....

I know its a rust bucket but I can't give up for some strange reason.
Need to get new springs and just start enjoying it a bit. Not my daily driver. Just having fun.

I see alot of folks panicked about the rust. You can't avoid it with these trucks. If you patch and reinforce is it really unsafe? I see some folks saying that these are death traps. I just don't understand the panic. These frames weren't all that great to start...

From the leaf spring to the cross member i boxed in the frame with 1/8" steel. 5 inch through bolts and welded everything solid.

    5 lbs of 6011 rod.

Really impressive post, it is great to show how much can be done with these trucks, instead of just bailing out on them and sending them to the junk yard. Thanks for sharing your project with us, I'm hoping that more than a few people will find some inspiration from it. I'm thinking that one of the many keys to your success is that it is not your daily driver, giving you a lot more flexibility to do what needs to be done without having to watch the clock to make it raod worthy again.

Hell yeah arc welder for the win. I would much rather use a stick welder. I believe more skill is involved. However I suck at welding. I just put my cab mount plates on over the weekend I can't tell you how many times I had to grind a weld out and start again. 99% of my weld experience is in the flat so doing vertical kicked my ass. Good thing I had a box of 6013s figured I'd only need 10 rods ended up using about 20. Haha.

Anyone have a set of Offroad wheels they want to sell on the cheap? I'm probably going to start running studded snows this winter and need a set of wheels.
