New member here.... :) Recently purchased my 2015 trd pro, got it pre owned w 500 miles.... the guy who owned it for a hot minute decided to go for a subaru wrx instead. Now I was wondering if anyone was hearing any rattling while being stopped kind of like a metal on metal sound. Doesn't sound normal to me, but I am girl and before I go to the shop and they tell me I am crazy I was wondering if anyone ran into this problem at all?

theres two metal shields under the truck connected to the exhaust near the front of the truck (they wrap around the catalytic converters)...........with a COOL engine, if u can, lay under the truck and covering the shield with a rag/towel, or wearing gloves, hit the shield with ur palm...............see if u hear a rattle.

Taco Tick? Never heard anyone describe that as metal on metal though.

An audio/video clip would help. I'd imagine you bought this as a Pre-Owned Certified. No harm/No Foul if you take it to the dealer! You paid a lot for this truck and deserve it to be perfect.

I hear it mostly if I'm going through a drive thru and I have my window down and im at a slow pace moving fwd. I also don't know if because the wall of the building makes the sound effect sound louder than it actually is. I cant think of anything sound wise to describe it other than a metal and metal sound. I could be way off. It is my first truck, it could be normal but just doesn't sound too appealing. It's Def cert/pre owned so I can take it to the dealer and still have toyota warranty I can always go get it looked at.

I had a catalytic converter fail really early on, it was obvious. Does your noise get louder or more pronounced with throttle?

    x2 for Taco Tick.

When I bought my first tacoma I was sketched out about all the sounds it made only because I haven't owned a tacoma yet alone a truck before. If this is your first taco you are probably quite sensitive to all the "new" sounds it's making.
The first time I drove down a highway through my city right beside the median with my window down I could hear the ticking only because the sound was amplified - that freaked me out until I found out it was normal.

Anyways, a video should clear this up!

I will Def have to get a video, if it's the taco tick then sweeeeeet, lol u guys saved me from going to the garage and getting weird looks from the mechanic lol. It is my first truck so all the sounds are taking some adjusting. I did go from a subaru crosstrek to a truck...there is no comparison on sounds. Thanks for the introduction on the taco tick, I will have to follow up with a video!

Sounds good! Better to be safe than sorry. Go have a listen, shoot a video, see if it matches the video I posted. The fluttering/clicking sound is very normal for Toyota engines in general.

If it's something entirely different though go have the dealer take a peek.

Congrats on the Tacoma PRO ;)

Did u really? I had my crosstrek less than a year but when I saw this bad boy in the lot on the way to work one morning I bought it on the way home. Haha. I am so glad I joined this group and am getting familiar with all the truck talk, and this taco tick, hopefully is what I'm not used to. There is no returning it.... I am Def loving every min of it also! :)

That's awesome I actually have the same story! Had my crosstrek 9 months. Gated the transmission. Drove by a toyota dealership, saw a sport on the lot and had to have it, Next week I picked mine up :). Wish it was a pro though :/. I want the wheels and grill. Yea this truck is going no where :) I love every minute.of it!

My first 3,000 miles, my truck was quiet and then the taco tic showed up. Just did my 1st oil change at 4,900 miles with Mobile 1 Synthetic and filled the tank up with 93 oct (typically use 87, but figured why not). My tick is pretty much silent as of right now.

I'm not claiming this is the magic trick to the taco tic, but so far so good.

    By the way, sweet truck!
