Clean the holes real well after removing the paint and rubber so the bolts thread smoothly, other than that stay

Nope, but I guess I would if I had it to do all over again. I don't have any leaks not using it, although @skygear did install mine when I won it in Harrisonburg.

These holes dont go into the cab do they? I cant imagine they would design it that way. I put a bit extra silicone just incase. Would hate to have a leak.

Yes. The holes DO go in the cab. If you take off the head liner you would see them.

As for silicone. I have not had any issues with water in my install. I have installed various racks totaling in the hundreds now for various people and only recently started using the silicone. Reason was I saw some rust. Cleaned it all up and instead of spraying it, used a clear aerosol silicone from the local advanced auto. Found that the threads feel easier with the silicone. So I have put it in the bag to use on all external installs now.

    Necessary? Maybe
    Required? No
    Protection? Of course

They left out the parts how the machined slots have burrs so must clear that. The slots and hex bolts will require hammering thru some parts due to the powder coating thicker in some parts. :) Jesus reading the instructions I thought this was going to be a breeze. I guess it also has to do with skill level. I am not the best with tools.

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention! Better to know ahead of time than scratching my head mid install.

Looks like i was wrong. Not a powdercoat issue. I could not get the rack attached to the base because the bolts kept getting stuck in postion. Only certain ones. Tried one that moved freely in a slat that was jamming up and it moved freely. Compared bolt heads and one was thicker. I removed the rack and took every bolt that did not move freely about 5-6 almost everyone and took it to the grinder, then the buffing wheel. Made the install a breeze with only one person. Put the rack in the bed of the truck, climbed into the bed then just set it on top. Then walked around moving each bolt to its hole. Man so easy after the grinder and buffer. I am now done with the install. I need a shade tree for future projects. This TX sun has got me beat.

How did the hole punch from Amazon perform? I would like to just use a hole saw as I have the correct sized one on hand but FrontRunner recommends a punch. I'm trying to make clean cut holes on my roof strip.

I have a hole saw also. The 3/4 punch worked perfect. I think the saw might of not made as clean a cut and not been as easy. With the punch you can get your hole right where it needs to be with out any skill. The rubber stuff is pretty soft so maybe the saw would of been just as easy. I just pictured the saw digging into the rubber and spinning it like an airplane prop. Figured be better to get the punch. Cheap insurance and I am sure i can use it for something some time.

Use the punches. Saws and drills are a no go.

A punch is the only way to go. Unfortunately I tried to use a hole saw! It doesn't work.

What light bar is this. I want a single row, thin bar like this. Google is not helping me. Keep finding the fat double row. Point me in the right direction.

Picture is too small to see but a good slim lightbar would be the 40" Rigid Industries SR bar. Very nice but $$$. Not too sure about other vendors.
