But on that note of things to keep in the truck! I have a fully stocked medical aid bag behind my seats which I replaced the plastic with the MOLLE panel I bought of Nat here on TW. Also carry water, a jet boil, cold weather MREs (don't freeze in -50) cold weather gear, multitool, my GPS watch, basic tool kit, 22lr rifle and 500rds and two good knives, jumper cables and a digital camera

Yes Darwin can weed people out pretty quick up here if they are stupid. Car crash or off the road in -50 can be lethal quite quickly if you don't have emergency gear and your vehicle can no longer run to supply heat

Beautiful spot, been up there a number of times but the last stop spot before it becomes desolate is Powel River. Beyond that you need a boat, curious as to where your folks cabin is because like I said, beyond Powel River is boat country.

I carry a small socket set and a good adjustible wrench, one of those screw driver sets with multiple bits, an old torque wrench, and some para chord and bungies, jumper cables. Then in the back, ratches and a tow strap.

Have had the same basic kit in all my cars and it is all I have ever needed. Mostly used to help friends or people stranded.

On long trips I carry more stuff, but its just not nessicary for my daily drives.

Lol. Guns, guns, and more guns. It's like the wild wild west down there. I read a thread about what do you keep in your centre console? Guess what the number 1 answer was. A gun and the complaint was that the centre console didn't hold a big enough gun.

Well I carry tie down straps, a pen, a pocket knife, flashlight, a cloth to wipe the finger prints off the face of the head unit, a swifer duster - keeps the dust off the dash, centre console, etc, a detailers paint brush - gets the dust out of the vents, an epee pen, a tire gauge and some TP. No guns.

All that said if we could carry guns in the great white north I probably would. Ever see a Moose when it charges a car...not pretty at all.

sub'd. Interesting thread so far. I've got the basics but need more honestly. Flashlight, ratchet straps, pocket knife, basic tools that somehow half are missing now. I'll be replacing that. Need to get some jumper cables too. First aid kit with all sorts of stuff for both people and dogs. We take our pooch hiking with us. 9mm Ruger for when we go off. I don't stash it in there all of the time. Too many things walk away from cars around here.

According to this thread, tools needed for a Tacoma are:

    - Wrench set
    - Jumper cables
    - Flashlight
    - Handgun

I would say those are tools for just about any car/truck really. I also keep a blanket/spare coat in there during the winter. I've had a car break down on me. It sucks waiting until someone can get there with the proper tools to get you going again.

I have a set of cheap jumper cables from walmart for like $10. I have had them for over 7 years and have jumped more people that I even know. Never had a problem.

Storing a gun in your vehicle is best left to those of us in only the most rural areas (unless it is well secured). Stolen guns in the hands of criminals becomes ammo for the anti-gun crowd to use against us law abiding gun owners.
Stepping off of my soap box now.

    To ad to the list:
-50 rounds in a vacuum sealed pack
-2 large contractor grade trash bags (limitless uses)
-a half roll of toilet paper in a vacuum sealed pack (vital if you have the wife or kids along)
    -hand sanitizer
-metal water container b/c it is really hard to boil water in plastic bottles

Credit card, a phone, a bag of weed and a flask of whiskey. Ain't much I can't get through without them. If I'm where there is no cell service, the weed will get me high enough to get reception.

Sure fire is top of the line. Special forces use them. Very consistent, tight beam.
