Guys.... you're going on the wrong track. This is a VERY old issue and has been covered ALOT.

The noise is coming from your air cleaner (airbox). Look under your hood where your air intake comes in from the passengers side fender. Grab it and shake it. You'll hear the noise. The noise is caused by your engine vibration shaking the intake tube, which hits the fender and causes a loud hollow noise. My truck has it, every taco I've seen has had it. Play with the foam that is SUPPOSED to insulate it, OR go find some new foam. Dealership should be able to fix it for you, but mine still came back, time after time..... just go throw some stuff in their to insulate it and be done.

Now I know theres more than one of you in this thread, so if you don't have the LOUD annoying noise that only seems to happen when you lightly press on the pedal, then this might not be your issue.

    I'm not shocked.

I will no doubt be printing this exchange up next time i go to the dealer.

I will add that the 2nd to last time i went in, it was for a defective molding ('cowl') at the base of teh windshiled that was replaced under warranty. I also wanted them to address the 'buzz'. I walked around the place during the wait and know for a fact the attempt to re-create the 'buzz' consisted of parking the truck just outside the rear door to the building and them driving it back in after about 20 minutes. Unless they have a special occilating machine inside the building to re-create the driving experience, the effort was really no effort at all.

briangp thanks, sounds like maybe that's my prob since it occurs when i lightly press the gas pedal, i'll have to look into it, too bad its all crappy and rainy outside today

a dealership thread would make too much sense duh, you have to realize most ppl working at the toyota dealership don't give a shit lol, at least at mine

Here is the explanation.... I have studied on this.

    1) The wire that is buzzing is the ECU wire... and it runs in from the engine through the firewall

    2) The reason why it buzzes is beacuse when you give gas the engine vibrates and gives a certain kind of buzz and pitch sound to the wires

    3) I have thought about maybe its not properly fed through the firewall, but i am not going to mess with that and when you ask the dealership they will give you the "FOAM TAPE IT UP" garbage

    4) Only thing i have thought of to do is to complain and YELL... SPIT... FOAM AT THE FOAM AND TELL THEM YOU ARE CALLING TOYOTA THE "MAIN PLACE" and telling them you are not getting good service.

    5) it is stupid we have to deal with this

Yup, good luck. This is a 30 second fix if you have some material. If I'm wrong then you can always crawl under your dash, rip around your ECU and play with electrical wires....

I always take the easier fix first. :)

same noise with two different intakes both very well insulated from any sheetmetal. my buzz is definately on the interior side on the firewall, between the firewall and glove box.

This is where my appears to be coming from as well.

I had read posts pertaining to the noises originating under the hood at the firewall and fender wall and can't get vibration / looseness there. I truely do not believe mine is occurring on the engine compartment side of the firewall.

This is my point. I don't want to be flxing plastic clips and parts that could easily break. I'll end up having to do enough of that after 36,000 miles i am sure.

It is the dealerships 'job' to break something, not mine, at least while it is under warranty...

Here is a picture of the wires. This is a very popular picture and shows what some have done.

It is the wires passing through the firewall behind the glovebox. Mine did it too during cold weather and low RPMs. To fix it, I lifted the hood and found the large group of wires that pass through (passenger side, glovebox level) and there's a bracket that holds the wires just before they enter the firewall. I bent that bracket to give the wires more tension and it fixed the problem.

Trying to fix it from inside the cab will only make you crazy.

I'd say I just got rid of 90% of the vibe noise, there's a gap between the airbag cover and where the glove compartment meet when closed, two plastic flaps are up in there, so i jammed foam inbetween the pieces and it's a lot better, ran out of foam or maybe it'd get 100% rid of it...
